levi is so fine man that’s my short KING

kittyburglar

I wanna marry Levi too 😏🥰

Sherin Nahed

Eren is a slave to freedom is ( as so many other comments before mine have said ) is one of the best things I've ever heard.

Rainy Days

Very very nice sentence "eren is a sla e to freedom" remember it

David Suarez

"Eren is a slave to Freedom" Well done. ♥

DB

If Levi kills Zeke the island is doomed, they need a titan of royal blood to use the rumbling.

Sam Harrison

N he is a solider despite what he wants to do, he will fulfill his order

Sega Atari

Levi letting Zeke live a while longer in order to try saving the island is abandoning all of his character development? How so? Levi enjoyed torturing Zeke this episode, so it's not like he's suddenly forgotten all the terrible things he's done.

Corey Hughes

whats the point of criticizing the show if you’re gonna pay to watch other people react to it

Richard

I saw someone else put it this way and I couldn't agree more. " the symbol that represented self-sacrifice to obtain freedom for others has been turned into a symbol to force martyrdom on others to take the freedom of others"

boba feat

Eren is a slave to the thoughts of attaining freedom, for most people freedom is a tool that lets them achieve what they actually want but for Eren freedom is the end goal, and fighting to achieve that end goal is what keeps him going, its what he's "drunk" on.

boba feat

No Marley sending titans to Paradis isn't genocide, Marley breaking the walls on the other hand could be considered an act of genocide, but even back then Marley's goal wasn't the death of every eldians inside the walls but control of Paradis. War/conquest ≠ genocide. No the whole world didn't agree to destroy Eldia, a few foreign diplomats who were basically Willy's childhood friends got emotional at the end of a speech, whether going to war or not wasn't their decision to make, but the ones who had to makes the decision did end up having their choice made for them when Eren attacked the festival, and it has been said by multiple characters in the show that without said attack by Eren resulting in the death of Willy and innocent eldians the declaration of war by itself would have been useless. and then you add to this how we learn later that the Jeager brothers planned the whole thing it gets kinda hard to say stuff like "Eren just reacted to the declaration" or "they were gonna do the same to Paradis Eren just beat them to the punch" its like living in a house with your family in a neighborhood where most of your neighbors don't really like you very much but only one of them is actively being an asshole. So you then you send your cousin to convince the asshole neighbor to set up a neighborhood meeting in his basement to talk about how they'll deal with you, but then you bomb the meeting so that ALL your neighbors get really pissed at you and get started on making moves against you, so that now when you go back home the rest of your family has no choice but to let you use the secret weapon of doom to fight the invaders. it gets extra juicy because the asshole neighbor knows you're planning on bombing the meeting and he let's you because he's actually been an asshole to everyone else too and the other neighbors don't really like him very much so he know that the only way he'll be able to convince them is if you do something really stupid like that.

boba feat

I think your mistaken about the lesson we got from that encounter with the female titan. at that point in time everyone believed that Eren didn't have control over his titan form so in an encounter with the female they believed they had two choices, Let the Levi squad do all the work, or let a berserk Eren in his titan form rampage around in hopes he could win the fight, but they discarded one path which was the one where the squad worked with Eren to achieve victory. in all the encounters after this one the scouts achieved victory working together, Eren didn't discard the chain of commands, he followed it and he followed the directives of his superiors. the fight against the female proved two things, the scouts fighting alone would lose, Eren fighting alone would also lose, and now we have a repeat of Eren going off on his own following his "better judgement"

boba feat

who?

dreg

Glad you pointed out the Scout Salute thing! What we once saw as a symbol of humanity's fight for survival has slowly turned into a symbol of propaganda and hatred. The original meaning of the salute has been utterly bastardized by the Yeagerists. The real scouts still represent their original mission, and I think we all know who those amazing people are :)

dreg

Zeke double crossing and having an ulterior motive? No way! anyone with room temperature IQ saw this coming from a mile a way. Hence why IMO this season is flawed. Levi has another chance of ending Zeke but yet still let's him live after what he's done to his squad in order to move this convoluted season/storyline forward. Characters acting out of character yet again. Let's just forget all of Levi's development in past seasons and OVA's.

The Break: The episode

Isac christensen

Beautifully put, the majority of people would like a black and white answer because they’re too lazy to delve into the ambiguous grey zones. They don’t want to pluck all the different variables to form a hypothesis on what decisions they’ll regret less in accordance to ones own definition of justice. They discern words like “genocide” and immediately jump on their “high horse” judging the situation as if there is no such thing as a trolley problem or nuance in everything that exists.

Gin-liberio

Y'all did kiss really say he is a slave to freedom lol! Crazy

chrislu71 .

There’s no situation in the world where genocide should be an answer Eren didn’t even try anything before. Didn’t he say that arming was gonna save the world? He didn’t even try arming plans or anyone’s he just decided yeah I’m gonna do that and no the world don’t deserve genocide dude. Because a few politics decided they were going to war (bare in mind the rest of the world hadn’t even agreed formally yet) doesn’t mean that all the citizens of the world deserve to die gtfo

Pioka

YALL WANNA KNOW ABOUT THE ACKERMAN, think back to season 3 in what Kenny’s grandfather said before he died about the history in where the Ackerman were persecuted but were once the kings hand? MIND BLOWING SHIT 🤯

Anthony Orozco

crazy how Eren argued with Mikasa and fought Armin... lets see the other way around :D

nikito1

yes they are very intuitive

Jer emy

cant waitttttt

Jer emy

Flock best character development in the show

Alan

19:00 onwards. what a beautiful discussion. It's a very confusing and frustrating discussion to know who is doing what and why, and who's slave to others, slaves to themselves, slaves to fate, slave to freedom, slaves to their past sins and indoctrinations... nice callback on the kenny thing that "everyone is a slave to something, you spend your entire time just trying to be a slave to something ELSE."

Charles Malo

I cannot stress enough, Haylo and Kiss, that you should absolutely not read any comments for this show from this point on. Just don't do it, you will 1000% get spoiled.

fr0st

i was about to say, never have words been spoken more accurately. When the time comes, after a certain episode, with more lore dump ;)... this statement i made then was amplified by "what does eren have to do force himself and all those around him to do for that freedom."

Charles Malo

or just don't comment this lol

zoisekai

Not to speak for Haylo and Kiss, but I almost wonder if they meant that Eren is a slave to the thought of freedom.

Jeremy

11:55 LMAOOO

Hans

Lol I think they know because they said “he’s so small” previously

Nat Li

-SPOILER WARNING SPOILER WARNING SPOILER WARNING- It's crazy how Eren hates that he has to do what he's doing to them, but at this point he more than knows that what he saw in the future has to happen for what needs to happen.

Conal Brady

Gabi could’ve been written off and I don’t mind lol..Falco all the way!. Eren’s character development is beyond..we used to hear all his thoughts. Him always getting angry and screaming. Then now we don’t get much. The rewatches open up my eyes so much. It’s def a show that is good for several rewatches

Regie Khemvisay

i'm glad they stopped reading comments until they're done lol

Hans

Yeah coz we never had the trio splitting up

Regie Khemvisay

Yeah, coz honestly he’s never tasted it. Lol

Regie Khemvisay

not that big of a deal...the change in animation doesn't help either

RiceC00ker

I love how you guys “hate” Eren right now lol. I don’t see that reaction that often. I love it

Jake the Movie Geek

Which one? I have not seen spoilers in this comment section beyond vague insinuations.

Slaizio

Eren is a slave to freedom is kinda stretchin but i get what u sayin

EezzyFeezyCash

Just to point out something that has been revealed already: Zeke's spinal fluid does not cause Eldians to freeze up. That was a lie to lower their guards and not think twice about drinking the infected wine.

Lil Reaper JR

Yeah, having to take 5 seconds to resync the video is a small price to pay for the in depth analysis.

My_Cousin_Mose

Your ccomment is gull of spoiler

baja

"Eren is a slave to freedom!!" What a paradoxical yet beautiful way to put it.

Randy Flash

i want to marry Haylee, she is smart in analysis with complex show like this with this style of writing and Hajime Isayama ideology and his thoughts put in his masterpiece (freedom & free will )"Eren is a slave to freedom" & "Is this like do we have a choice? or just the future nothing will do u change it." Haylee this is not the first time u do a good breakdown & analysis keep it up. I have complete confidence & u will not disappoint us in Episode 20 .. best ever episode made in all TV shows history

ahmed raad

This episode is really where I think people get split on Eren about trusting him or not. Such a good one

Kayden 21

I am only laughing it off, they were mixing Armin and Yelena just few eps back.

PKS

The casual "Eren is a slave to freedom" drop on episode 14 of season 4. WOW.

NissanZaxima

Eh it's not that big of a deal, it gets cleared up next episode anyway

Pocketsleuth

levi went through the same pain in s1, he lost his squad again in the woods 💔 this suffering just never ends. also, I don’t like floch at all, but he’s one of the characters that had the best development in the show, especially in s4 i don’t like how some of the characters writing went. reiner floch zeke eren and gabi are the best written characters for me in s4.

Zain kb

The left is always confused af and says weird stuff 😩🤣🤣

Alex A.

Bro sorry, love you both so much but you two are baad with faces lol. You forgot how Grisha's dad looks like. Anyways you have seen that person, Mr Ksaver, when Grisha took his sister outside of wall, 3x19, just for reference.

PKS

Im glad ya boi here is 5”11 legitimately 😅😅

Reginald Leandre

If only the hot guys were nerfed somehow in real life😅😅😅

Reginald Leandre

Yeah I agree with this. Genocide is wrong and unjustified both ways, but Marley and the rest of the world planned on genocide towards Eldia anyway, and only waited because the rumbling was very much a threat. Agreeing with Eren doesn't just mean someone likes genocide btw, it's that they understand he's just beating them to the punch. Agreeing with Marley doesn't mean you're in the moral high ground either. It just means you see the lesser of two evils. I wish AOT fans would understand the point of it all being morally gray. There is no perfect answer, either way is horrible. You could call someone a messed up person regardless of which side they choose to follow. Some are more extremists than others, but remember the core point of it all: this world is just that cruel. And it is okay to understand and accept both sides as being their chosen course of action. We need to stop trying to simplify it down to "so you think genocide is better?". Any viewer that actually watches this show and understands it does not enjoy genocide, they can just understand and stand behind Eren's decision to take action. Then there's me; I had no side. Nobody 100% in the wrong, Eren simply is super extremist in his ideals. I was just a bystander, watching the world burn and hoping as many people came out of it as possible lol. At a certain point in this show that's the best you can ask for. Hell, most points in this show that's the best outcome.

CrowsVA

The rewatchability of this show is incredible

Jake the Movie Geek

You guys saying “Eren is a slave to freedom” is CRAZY

Jake the Movie Geek

Angry. Disappointment. Sadness. Oooh got that on point but on a different POV

Regie Khemvisay

Isn’t what Marley did throwing titans to Eldia also genocide? It’s just that the capacity is different. The whole world agreeing to Destroy Eldia is also genocide. Only that Eren beat them to it before they could make it happen

Regie Khemvisay

Levi gets the job done...no matter who he has to kill

Phillip

So…. Gen*cide is better? lol

Pioka

"Eren is a slave to freedom" is WILD :)

camel

I'm just here for the drama and debate between The Alliance Vs. the Jaegerists. Popcorn is on me lads!

Cation

I stand with Eren from the earliest episodes in season 4. Why? remember the Female Titan arc, when Eren wanted to change into the Attack Titan and fight her along with Levi's squad, but he was opposed by the squad and requested to trust them and 'stick to the plan'. Which has resulted in the death of all of Levi's squad. If you were Eren, and faced with life & death situation, would you repeat this again and follow the chain of commands, against your own judgment? I personally wouldn't. Just few rhetorical questions, why many viewers/readers trust the current Eldian's Military, but not Eren and the 'Yeagerists'? Floc refer to them as 'hard headed geerzers', was he completely wrong? 4 years has passed and still no concrete plan from the MPs! Lastly, Do Queen Historia has any say in this? If she wanted to replace Zachary with Eren for whatever reason, trust Eren/please the public/any other reason, would she succeed! Who is truly more powerful, Commander-in-Chief of the Three Regiments Zachary or Queen Historia?

Orsi2003

Y’all are so smart with your commentary! Love the discussions and how you word certain things.

crnrds

This and the season 4 episode 20/21/22 are my fav parts of this show.

Rawdota

Wow I think this is the first time I’ve heard a reactor describe Eren as a “slave to freedom” at this point in the series. Honestly the more discussion the better. I dislike reactions where the reactors watch the episode and have barely 1-2 min discussion at the end.

Masaya Jimbo

they gotta nerf him somehow

RiceC00ker

beast titan + 30 abnormal titans being trapped inside with levi

Josip

Throughout watching this show, you've been collecting pieces of a new lens within which to view it. Whether or not by the end you have all the pieces, only you will know. I'm all for a re-watch either way. The changes in expressions alone would be entertaining as hell.

Jonathan Charles

So, if it wasn't already obvious from Grisha's memories and the general modern-day plight of the Eldians in Marley, a lot of this story draws on the imagery of the treatment of European Jews in the lead-up to World War 2 (though it's obviously only a partial allegory). This episode, IMO, is a great snapshot of what it looked like in Germany as the Nazis grew in influence among the populace. One of the earliest events in that era was the burning down of Magnus Hirschfeld's center for LGBT-related medical research. If you look at the photos taken by those who participated, it's striking how so many of them are young men, many of them literally college students. We tend to always think of the bigots in any society as just being old curmudgeons who are stuck in the mindset of a less enlightened generation, but Floch in this season, IMO, really serves as a striking picture of what many of the actual Nazis looked like: young, well-educated men who knew better but who were simply too excited at the prospect of having power over others to give a shit. Because there are so many Floch defenders on the internet for some weird reason, I'll close by saying that, yes, he's not pure evil, he is shades of grey like all characters, and that's a testament to him being well-written, but my general point still stands. TL;DR: this show is great and they really made the characters well-rounded and realistic.

Alex Nelson

Whats funny is the craziest parts of this show are mostly DIALOGUE!!!! Of course levi vs kenny, levi vs beast in shiganshina, eren vs dina fritz, eren vs reiner after reveal, but the rest is all dialogue and it just blows my mind how great an anime thats pretty action oriented has soo many amazing dialogue scene.(as opposed to deathnote which is all dialogue so its to be expected that the craziest scenes will be dialogue)

Reginald Leandre

Ep 19 boooiiiiiii, ep 26 boooiiii, ep 28 boooiiiii, ep 29 boooiiii, movie 30 booooiiii😅😅😅

Reginald Leandre

Im not gonna lie, even when i was watching this the first time. I never once felt like zeke was selfish like that. Meaning, he wants to make sure he himself is alive. Zeke always struck me as a “bigger picture guy”.

Reginald Leandre

Also when i see the scene. Eren stated he hates mikasa makes me think of what eren said to Mikasa when Dina was about to eat the both of them after Hannes

Reginald Leandre

Also ladies please continue this outro conversation

Reginald Leandre

Also i have to add! Commander Magath, the main marleyan military official, stated that the beast titan can throw an artilery blah blah blah during that Riener flash back when reiner was about to shotgun his whole head off. He made it sound like it was a power specific to the beast titan but it has nothing to do with the beast and has everything to do with Zeke Jeagar. Anyways just thought id share that.

Reginald Leandre

Great discussion at the end! Cant wait for your reaction to the next episode.

D

We're getting so close now!

BMAotC

Also not a spoiler hange literally said it.. the freeze is a lie from zeke to allow the MPs and other people to not realize they are drinking his spinal fluid

Reginald Leandre

Also ladies levi is 5”4 or 5”2 just saying😅😅😅 Idk how you feel about short kings but yea😅

Reginald Leandre

This is my mates first anime I've shown him we got to this episode about half way in and he asks me "Kieran does Levi pop off at least once these season?" Told him aye and then 5 mins later🤣☠️

Kieran

I love how the show talks directly to the viewers before showcasing something its talking a out right after FOR THOSE WHO UNDERSTOOD UNDERSTAND

Reginald Leandre

Preach!

Slaizio

Season 4 really does have some of the craziest scenes and its just talking

Gabriel Mendez

Please don’t apologize for pausing and discussing!!! We want to hear all your thoughts and ideas!
