2024-04-24 16:38:25 +0000 UTCYes there was animosity towards Paradis but animosity won't transform into aggressive actions for no reason, the reason in this case is Eren proving he is an international menace. The world had been hating Eldians for centuries before Eren, they had a 100 years to do anything to Paradis if they wanted to, but they didnt. Not because of "love" for Eldians but because they cons for attacking Paradis outweighed the pros, that's how literally every armed conflict starts, no one in the modern world starts a war just because they "hate" the other side. conflict is costly in terms of resources time and manpower, even Marley didn't do anything to Paradis until they wanted something from the island. Eren and the scout's attack on Liberio ensured that now for most nations the cons for NOT attacking Paradis were heavier than the pros. Those ambassadors were for the most part Willy's childhood friends, of course they'll get teary-eyed when he gives such an emotional speech, they still would have had to relay the information Willy gave to their leaders who would have then needed to make a decision on whether or not help Marley. Willy and Magath KNEW that just a nice speech wouldn't have been enough, they NEEDED Paradis to prove them right on the spot, if all they needed was to give the world an update on the status of Paradis there would have been no need for Willy to give his life. there's also the question of who's actually organizing this declaration but that's spoiler territory so I won't touch it, yet.

It's a great show with so many great characters. I'm not an elitist when it comes to sub or dub, I love both on most animes. With this one, I would suggest the dub. No matter what you choose though, I'll still watch the reaction. 😅😎

But to clarify, I'm saying the war crimes that are happening are being forced to happen by the instigators which are Marley in this situation. If you don't like war crimes, which you shouldn't, you should place the blame on Marley who are orchestrating them to happen, rather than blaming Paradis, a peaceful nation that is being force to defend themselves against greedy hateful racists. Like if person A breaks into person B's house and person A brings a child with them, you can't blame Person B for hitting the child by shooting in the dark to defend themselves. It's literally person A's fault for putting the child in that situation in the first place. Just like it's Marley's fault for purposely holding the event in Liberio where they know there are tons of civilians and they had intel that there would be an attack

The nuance is that Marley carefully orchestrated this event in a place where there would be no other options except for civilian casualties to occur so that they could gain sympathy from other nations. They literally forced Paradis, a peaceful nation that is 100 years behind them in warcraft tech, to attack them in this way. So the war crimes Paradis are making are being forced to happen by Marley, so you can place the blame on Marley if you actually could see the nuance and not just stop at "war crimes are bad"

First, the ambassadors in the audience were from multiple different nations and they were all applauding Willy's declaration of war before Eren attacked, so there was already sympathy/support being portrayed from SEVERAL other nations. Second, even if Marley didn't have direct support from all other nations, most nations still hated Eldians as portrayed by the dying soldier from the MIddle East Alliance who was being racist to the warrior candidates, so not attacking Liberio wouldn't have made a difference. Again, Marley is orchestrating all this for the world to hate Paradis even more than they already do and giving Paradis no openings to reverse that, so the best they can do is defend themselves when they have the chance because there is literally nothing they are able to do to make the world stop hating them.

Eren's attack on Liberio, cemented the idea that the rest of the world didn't have any choice but to ally against Paradis. Marley didn't have the support of the other nations before that. Willy and Magath specifically put the delegates in the front seats to get killed because they knew if they didn't do that the rest of the world wouldn't have actually allied with them.

At the end of the day the Eldian empire was horrible to the world so the marleya were horrible to eldians and Eren just proved them right. He should’ve just used the titans to defend the island while he made alliances with other countries because they have resources but instead he put fear in all nations.

If they'd been defending Marley, I would have responded the same way. While I recognize that this is a fictional world, I don't think we should be rationalizing or excusing war crimes (no matter what the reason). As you correctly pointed out, people often become little more than statistics during the heat of war, and as a result, those of us who hear about the loss of life find it easier to write off the deaths. It's one of the reasons why (proper) journalism is so important. We need to see the loss of life and devastation before our humanity kicks in.

2024-04-20 03:00:24 +0000 UTCWhile I understand and agree with a lot of what you said, claiming that anything Paradis does going forward can simply be justified as "self-defense" merely feeds into the cycle of hatred. That's not to say they can't defend themselves, but intentionally killing civilians (or not making an effort to avoid their deaths) is literally a war crime. We witnessed Jean scolding Floch for that very reason in this episode.

I can't stand though how the eldians are brainwashed to literally hate their own and because of whats happening they justify it. I started not to like Gabi here for a little while. This is only the beginning though as you guys noticed Eren does seem different but remember the titans gather all of the memories of the previous. Eren knows way more and when you see the twist coming up about why/how you definitely will leave the room screaming!

Like colonizers saying natives are savage then they take over their land which in turn causes natives to fight back and defend themselves. Then the colonizers will say "see, they are savages just like we said". Eldia/Paradis is protecting itself against Marley which already initiated an unprovoked attack 5 years ago amd just declared war on top of that. Everything Eldia does now is in self-defense. So imo, the casualties Eren is causing is Marley's fault for demonizing and attacking Paradis in the first place.

Magath shooting Eren was basically announcing that MArley intends to go to war with Paradis. It is also something that history will remember if Marley is successful in the war "commander Magath took the first shot"

But sometimes we're sensitive and easily understand something like this idk why too haha but specifically Japanese culture I think they are more deeply in these things, like they showed pomegranate in the episode 7 or they keep saying " because i was born into this world". It's kinda symbolic and abstract but I think I do get the feeling of it. 😅
