Great series and love how invested y’all got into the story . If I can recommend a series that is possiblely interesting I would say check out Mindhunters on Netflix . It’s based around real life serial killers and has great acting and production similar to this

This quote has stayed with me since I first watched the show ... and most every time I'm tempted to lie ... thankfully, my brain/heart resurfaces it. "Every lie we tell incurs a debt to the truth. Sooner or later, that debt is paid." Thanks for reacting to this ... it is a must-see for every human being ... and so is Band of Brothers (so I hope you will work that in soon.) :)

This show left me speechless too, for a while. Even now, re-watching it with you, the emotions come back to me with full force. The picture that haunted me the most was that of the fiefighters widow in the hospital bed, her agony after losing her newborn. For me it symbolizes all the damage the accident did to the people, essentially to the country. πŸ™ˆπŸ’” This episode probably was probably the least "real" one, but for good reasons. Legasov and Cherbina did not attend at the trial. As it has been said, it was a show trial to present Djatlov, Formin and Bruchanov as the only villains of the story. I think Legasovs testimony (and those of the other scientists) was taken beforehand and read out. It was held in Chernobyl, according to soviet laws of the time (trials must be held at the place where the crime happened) and because of the symbolism of the place. The science was explained at the trial, but none of the political accusations were made at the trial. They came from Legasovs tapes and were silently discussed among the russian nuclear scientists. Since it wouldn't have made sense to show us a political show trial with characters we do not know, the writers placed our three heroes there. Yes, while they exaggerated Djatlovs behaviour a little bit, he was an insufferable, very rude and stubborn man, who was very difficult to work with. The number of deaths as a result of the catastrophe ranges so much, because it depends on how you count, which diseases you include and the fact that there are (deliberately) no records of all the liquidators and former citizens of Pripjat and Chernobyl. And of course it depends on which side you politically are. For Russian politicians, the only victims were the firefighters and the workers at the plant, hence the low number of 31. Western studies talk of a few thousand to tens of thousands, depending on the parameters of the studies and if the researchers are pro or anti nuclear power. The first ones play the numbers down, the other group exaggerates them. I guess the world will never know the exact number. It doesn't matter anyway. The accident and its repercussions are so horrible, that it must not happen ever again, no matter if it killed a dozen, a hundred or thousands of people. Thank you for watching this show, I know it was very hard, but it was certainly worth it. πŸ˜Šβœ¨πŸ‘Œ

Thank you both for reacting to this show. Your reflections and thoughts throughout the episodes were heartfelt and it made rewatching this show quite emotional. It's definitely a hard show to watch, but I feel it is quite important. I was only 5 when it happened, and I lived quite far away (Norway), but I do remember it was all over the news here. My mother took it quite hard and we knew it was serious. Wishing you all a positive and kind October weekend <3
