There was a huge commotion in the Greengrass countryside home, Daphne, the eldest daughter and the heir was supposed to be safely guarded here, however, Harry Potter had been taken off duty because he had to deal with some administrative stuff he had been delaying for some time.
But now that the man had to come back to guard her and tell her about the approval of her parole, something terrible had happened, as far as Harry could say, it seemed like the house had been attacked, and not only that, the person or persons who attacked the house also took Daphne with them too, something that made Harry Potter feel enraged.
“Okay, okay, it seems like they’re waking up!” A nurse said after applying some healing charms to the guards that were attacked.
“Merlinson, Flamme…How do you guys feel?” Asked Harry Potter in the calmest tone possible.
However, the dark-haired wizard was desperate right now, he had no idea about what he was going to hear from the guards who were ordered to take his place for a few days while he took care of some boring stuff, still, even if he just arrived, he was convinced of something, the fact that Daphne didn’t try to seduce the guards or get rid of them while he wasn’t here, it was telling him that she was kidnapped, she had nothing to do with this.
“Let's just hope they didn't lose their memories, Harry,” a man with a red-haired man suddenly said with a worried expression.
“They’re the only ones who can help with this Ron, they witnessed everything, we need to hurry up…Daphne could be in serious danger right now,” Harry said in a serious tone.
His best friend suddenly raised a brow as he realized his friend’s attitude towards the blonde had changed. The red-haired man had been sent on a mission abroad, he was in America to get some special training as he didn’t feel his power was enough, he wanted more, and he just arrived in time for this mission.
And even though he and Harry had been apart for almost two years, he was quite aware of the bad relationship between Harry and the person he was supposed to guard thanks to the letters they'd been sending each other but now things seemed to have changed between them.
The redhead is planning to ask his best friend some important questions later but for now, they decided to focus on trying to figure out what happened here. Suddenly Harry and Ron were startled the moment they heard that the pair of guards started to cough, Harry and his best friend quickly got on their knees to give the pair of tired Aurors some water.
“Potter…Is that you?” Merlinson asked a little shocked to see the hero of the world giving him water, suddenly, a pair of glasses was put on his face.
“Of course it’s him…Who else could have those eyes…” Flamme, a slender guy with blonde hair said before he started to cough once again.
“Take it easy guys…But if you feel like you want to talk about what just happened here, we’d truly appreciate this…Your words will help us to see if Daphne Greengrass was kidnapped or if we need to start a manhunt in the country…Well, if it's the latter it would be more like a womanhunt, right?” Ron asked in a confused tone.
“Oh right…The prisoner!” Merlinson said in a worried tone.
“I don’t know if she planned this or it was just an act…But the people who attacked us were clearly coming after her,” Flamme had a serious expression as he said this.
“Shit!” Harry said completely desperate.
Harry was completely aware of what was going on in the outside world, former and supposed innocent death eaters were being hunted and targeted by their former group of friends as a way to send a message to the world.
“Calm down Harry…Guys, please continue, if you can give us more details we can work with, we’d appreciate it,” the redhead said with a caring tone.
“Four…Four people, that’s the number of people that attacked the place, they were dressed with black cloaks, and their faces were covered so, there was no way for us to tell who they were,” Flamme explained with a frustrated tone.
“We didn’t have the chance to see them clearly though, we were just taking the prisoner inside, she was working in the garden until then, and suddenly…Boom,” Merlinson said in a tone full of regrets, he felt like a failure.
“This doesn’t make any sense…It’s impossible to pass the barrier of magic placed by the state officers,” Harry had no idea what was going on here. “Unless…Could it be that someone in the ministry helped them?” Harry’s tone made the occupants gulp.
His accusations were severe, but in the end, knowing how corrupt the ministry was, and knowing that a lot of criminals got away because of their connections, those conclusions weren't too far-fetched, so, if that’s what happened, they needed to know who did this and something was telling Harry that this thing had to happen specifically when he was out of commission, this has been clearly planned, so, just for curiosity, Harry decided to ask them a question.
“Has Daphne been sending letters lately?” He asked his tired colleagues and they nodded without hesitating, they were a little confused by that. “To who?” Harry wondered with a raised brow.
It’s not like he suspected Daphne planned all this, but it wouldn't be crazy if she leaked some important information accidentally.
“Her mother,” Merlinson answered with a confused expression.
“Did you guys check out the contents of the letters?” Harry was getting a little impatient, he wanted to be wrong.
However, after seeing the doubtful expressions on their faces, he knew that they didn’t do it.
“I don’t remember—” Merlinson tried to say but he was quickly cut by his partner.
“No, we didn’t check out,” the blonde man said with a regretful expression. “Sorry man, I have a good memory and I don’t remember us checking the contents of the letters…I can’t believe we forgot about it,” Flamme was hating himself right now.
“Hey…You’re too weak right now, calm down, it’s not your fault, it’s a common mistake amongst rookies, I did it at first too, so, don’t beat yourselves up and just keep going, this is not the right time to beat yourselves just rest, right now there’s something important I need to do,” Harry said with a calm tone but his expression was completely serious.
“Harry…What’s going on?” Ron asked his friend as he followed him to the entrance of the house.
“I think Daphne told her mother I wasn’t here, and her mother could’ve accidentally told one of her friends or known people, and then that information could’ve reached out to the people responsible for this…You need to remember that her family's circle is full of pureblood wizards and witches who were former death eaters,” Harry explained to his best friend whose eyes widened.
Ron was surprised his friend managed to think about that theory just with that little info, he was showing once again why he was considered a prodigy amongst Aurors, it was such a shame that Harry was demoted and held little to no authority right now.
“Potter, Weasley…Where are you two guys going?” Asked Hestia Jones, their superior.
“Inspector, I think we’re close to knowing who did all this, I’m going to interview Daphne Greengrass' mother, she probably accidentally leaked some important information, that's why I’m going to talk to her,” Harry told his superior.
“Wait a minute Potter…You can’t do that, we first need an order and we need to build a case!” Hestia tried to stop him.
“I’m sorry Jones, but the life of Daphne Greengrass is in danger, I will never forgive myself if something happens to her,” Harry said to the older woman whose eyes widened.
“I can’t believe what I’m hearing…Harry Potter, the number one death eater hater and the self-called death eater hunter is feeling sympathy towards the person he was supposed to guard without any strings attached…” The older woman couldn’t believe it.
Hearing her tone made him remember why she was Tonks’ best friend, may her soul rest in peace but it seemed like there were still some traces of the metamorph left in her best friend.
“Don’t misunderstand me, Jones…I’m just doing my job,” Harry said with the most serious tone possible.
But he knew he was just pretending, he tried to deny it for so long, but she was right, he was worried about Daphne and it had nothing to do with the fact it was part of his job, no, the reason of his worry was beyond that.
“Potter…You know you can't involve yourself with the prisoner—” The older woman tried to warn him.
“I know inspector…And I’m convinced of the reasons why I’m acting like this but…If you think that what I’m doing is illegal then…You can report me if you want to, but, saving the prisoner’s life is my top priority now,” Harry said with a confident tone. “Ron, please tell Jones what I told you, I need to see Mrs. Greengrass now,” Harry told his best friend and he didn’t wait for a response.
Harry just disappeared, he wanted to see Daphne’s mother as soon as possible, time was limited, so, he needed to act as fast as possible.
