“Sorry Moody I guess we won’t see each other again,” Harry said as he got ready to get out of there so he could contact Bellatrix and get done with this.
“Wait!” Moody said in a stern tone that made Harry stop in his tracks before looking at the older man.
Alastor was completely shocked the moment he saw Harry's face once again, he didn't expect him to have a few tears in his eyes, it seemed like he was scared and it would make sense for anyone to be scared, what he was planning to do was a very dangerous and self-destructive decision, and yet, it seems like he was willing to go that far for his loved ones.
“I need to…There’s no other option, look, they’re going to end up getting me anyway, and if the world has a chance to defeat Voldemort it would be with the help of the order, I’m not needed in this,” Harry said to the older man in a desperate tone.
Moody still had the same stern expression, he wasn’t a person who usually shows emotions, after all, in his field, it’s not a good idea to get very emotional as you can get mocked by your colleagues and considering the high mortality rate, it’s not a good idea to get attached to your workmates, and yet, that doesn’t mean it doesn’t hurt him every time he hears another one of his colleagues died.
“I know how you’re feeling, I know what it feels to get frustrated when you’re not able to do anything to help those who you love, I know it quite well…I was weak too and I paid that with the blood of the woman I loved and that made me change and made me the man I am today,” the older man confessed to Harry.
He didn’t know why he was telling Harry all this, he isn't someone who usually tells people (not even his close friends) about his past, that was the reason why he hated death eaters so much and the reason why he was willing to even lose parts of his body to destroy them, he swore he was going to get rid of each one of them the day the love of his life died and he hadn't changed his mindset since then.
“There’s no point for me to wait, Moody, I need to act right now before I regret it because by doing that, I will truly cause the end of the world,” Harry said with a scared tone.
He couldn’t stop thinking about the prophecy he had been told about his destiny and Moody was aware of that prophecy just like everyone in the order who wanted to train Harry to get him to join the order.
Moody was a very logical person and even though he hated the idea of using the only remaining member of the Potter family for something so dangerous as he didn’t want to disrespect the memory of the Potter family in case their souls disappeared forever, he knew that Harry’s plan was logical and it was the best course of action they could take, so, if it was that logical…Why Moody was hesitating?
“Sorry…This can’t wait any longer, goodbye Moody,” Harry was about to disappear from there but suddenly, the older Auror placed a hand on his shoulder which caused the younger man to look at the Auror’s face with a concerned expression.
“Your plan makes sense…To a certain extent,” the older Auror told him with a more calmed tone.
Harry wasn’t used to hearing Moody speaking like that, he loved to make noise and he loved to boss people around, so, seeing him acting so calmly was something Harry never expected to see in his life.
“What?” Harry asked with a raised brow.
“You’re planning to call for Bellatrix, and then you’re willing to let them do whatever they want with your body…Right?” Asked the older Auror with a serious expression.
Harry didn’t hesitate and nodded at the older man’s question, he knew his plan was obvious but he couldn’t help but feel disappointed that this man managed to figure out what he was planning to do so easily, his experience as an Auror was no joke.
“How are you going to make sure they’re going to honor their promise? You need to take into account that those people don't play fair,” said the older man with a raised brow.
Harry was trying to answer the older man's doubts, but considering he hadn’t thought about this part of the plan, he couldn’t say anything, he remained in silence and tried to say something but he only stuttered and said some words that didn’t make sense, Moody was right, he was just improvising.
“I…I don’t know,” Harry said in a defeating tone.
“Just like like I thought…You’re going to need help…Let me help you,” the older man told him with a confident tone.
“But…They told me they wanted only me and I'm sure they're going to kill anyone who decides to help me,” Harry was worried about the older man even though he was the last person in the room one should be worried about when it comes to battling.
“This is a war, Harry Potter…People eventually are going to die,” Moody said in a calm yet cold tone.
Harry was shocked to hear that, but even if he tried to deny it, he knew that was the truth, it was a reality he had been trying to avoid as much as he could, he didn’t want to think about killing someone, he knew he murdered the kidnapper when he was a child but that was because he let his emotions take over him, so, in theory, the one who killed that person was Voldemort's piece of soul, or at least that’s the excuse he has been using since the battle against the Horcrux, he would never dare to kill anyone…Right?
However, it seems like reality has finally caught up with him, he hates to think about killing someone, and he thought that by doing what Bellatrix wanted him to do he was going to avoid as many deaths as he could but it seems like things aren’t going to be as easy as he thought they would be.
“I don’t want innocent people to die because of me,” Harry said in a tone full of concern.
“Die for you? You’re being too self-centered right now, I don’t know about other people but I’m fighting for everyone to have a future, and most of all…I want to fight because of my friends, trust me, Harry, being here safe and sound while the death eaters did what they did to them…It makes me feel ashamed of myself!” Moody said as he stomped the floor in clear frustration.
Harry was surprised to hear him talking like that, people usually don’t want to die and if they want to is because some of them have some diseases that stop them from having a functional life or because they can’t take it anymore, but in Moody’s case, it was because he was feeling like a failure, he wanted to fix things between him and his friends even though he had nothing to do with what happened here, after all, no one could predict that something like this could happen.
Harry wanted to stop the man from helping him, but then he realized that knowing the older man, doing that was going to be close to impossible, so, he sighed and nodded, if he wanted to be part of this, he wasn’t going to stop him, after all, it’s not like he had the power or physical strength to stop the Auror but most of all, he’d love to get some help to achieve his goal.
“Then what should we do now?” Asked Harry with a serious expression.
“First of all, you need to realize something Harry…Due to me being part of this, they’re not going to hesitate in destroying some of the devices where the souls are being stored, you need to be aware that there are going to be sacrifices, and we’re probably not going to be able to save everyone,” Moody told Harry.
The young man was devastated to hear that, he wanted to save everyone and he would lie if he said he was satisfied with Moody's words, but deep inside his mind, he knew that losing a lot of them was something that could happen, after all, the death eaters don’t play fair.
“It’s our priority to save as much of them as we can,” the Auror’s tone was cold but Harry could tell there was a bit of regret in the tone he was using. “Of course, the plan I’m thinking could result in us being Victorious as we save everyone…Or it could end in a complete mess, we need to be ready for both scenarios,” the man’s tone was scaring Harry but he nodded in the end.
Harry would’ve loved to be part of the Auror corps in a different timeline, one where he could be a competent wizard but right now, he was practically useless, but the death eaters didn't care about that, they wanted him alive.
