I think the show was definitely enjoyable, though I can understand why some people were disappointed by it. I don't have any nostalgic feelings for the original movie because as far as I can recall, I didn't watch it until just before I watched the show, but I think there were some elements from the film they could have expanded on but chose to leave out or modify for the show in strange ways. Magic in the film felt much more dynamic compared to the show, the Brownies were only included as a cameo and seemed to have become much more domesticated compared to their tribal aesthetic from the film, and the pixies were just gone with no explanation that I can recall. I think they did a decent job expanding on Bavmorda and the lore surrounding her, and giving Kael an actual backstory and a culture founded by his followers was interesting, and I understand the complications that prevented Madmartigan from making an actual appearance, but I kind of felt they spent a bit too much time focusing on him in the story with that in mind, especially considering that they established Boorman knew where he went very early on in the story. I'm sort of rambling now, so I'll finish up by saying that I hope the next season spends less time on world-expanding and teen drama and more time with the characters having adventures together now that there are established dynamics and plenty of already established lore to play around in. P.S. The music didn't bother me that much, but I think a possible solution to the issue of how jarring it sounds compared to the normal soundtrack would be to replace all the songs with covers done in an acoustic, bard-esque style that would sound more in line with a song heard in the background of a fantasy tavern scene. Maybe that's just me though.

I thought there were good elements to it, and I appreciate that they really put the budget on the screen, but it really shot itself in the foot occasionally with some unforced errors. Too many characters in the main party: Boorman was genius, so you have to keep him. I liked Revolori's arc, and obviously Willow and Elora Danon had to be there. Ruby Cruz somewhat won me over in the end, and was a tie to Mad Mardigan...so I think Jade is the easy choice for character to cut out. Playing modern music in the episodes: I think Eric covered this pretty thoroughly. It was a strange and unnecessary choice, especially when Willow has great themes to go to. Pacing issues aplenty: I think you could trim a couple episodes out, remove some of the more inconsequential pieces, like the strange encounter in the woods and most of the episode with the bone face people tribe, and you could have had a leaner, meaner show, that still did plenty of character development. Hire a stunt coordinator: There were close to zero compelling fight scenes in the show, and it's clear to me that is because they either didn't have the budget or a good enough choreographer to direct the fights against the Gales in the episodes where they showed up. (Or the turned commander and his soldiers) This also meant that character's power levels fluctuated randomly. Especially Willow. There is some strong architecture for the show though: The plot itself isn't terrible, most of the actors were solid, and it looked damn good. Even the humor occasionally hit. I don't think it would take too much effort to solve some of these issues in season 2.

Show is good. Reaction, nah

I didn’t hate it,but I far from loved it. The writing was not good. The younger cast were very hit or miss throughout the season. And the finale felt a little bland. Aside from Elora and Jade, I didn’t really connect with the other characters. I do hope that they do better in season two, though.

i liked it. i liked the setup for the second season moreso. hope it gets a second season cause that would be an EPIC emotional villain for the crew to face. and now that the boy twin is no longer a damsel in distress, he can joy the squad!

I just thought it was such a let down I was legitimately looking forward to it That being said it wasn’t “Bad” but that isn’t always a good thing to JUST not be bad

Didn't love it but didn't hate it, either. I think they could do so much better so I'm also kinda hoping for season 2.

It was one of the shows that I did look forward to the next episode every week and enjoyed myself while watching. I was not a fan of the movie, which I saw when it came out. I was psyched before it came out and left the theater with my friend disappointed & found it pretty un-memorable. The takeaway when I'd think about watching again in subsequent years was not remembering details, but thinking it was boring. I didn't fully watch it again, I think, until Aaron's watch-a-long & only enjoyed it because of seeing all of the guys' reactions & felt the same about the movie itself that I'd have probably found it boring on my own. This is not a slight at anyone who loves this movie, just a note of my POV & why I'm not as excited about the original stuff as those who are linked to it through nostalgia. What people have been complaining about on the show (besides the music choices) are mainly the issues I had with the movie, but since I already felt that the movie was too jokey (childishly, IMO) & simplistic & I didn't connect with any of the characters, I was ready for a non-epic and a bit comedic fantasy story. This did that, but also delivered (because of lengthier time of a series compared to a movie) a more in- depth exploration of the lore of that universe & the characters. I voted that I liked it because I looked forward to more every week & had fun throughout. I didn't LOVE it, but it was thoroughly enjoyable for me. I didn't bring any feelings of the movie on a pedestal, so I could come at this a bit cleaner & just relax with it.

I see potential in the show (especially if they fix the music), but I'm not sure I like it yet. If they have a season 2 I'll probably watch it out of curiosity, but I'm not invested.

I nearly gave up on it, but the last 3 episodes were far above the rest. So it balanced out for me and I say neutral. I'm with Eric on the end of episode music choices.
