And while they do butt heads, the show goes to great lengths to telegraph that they are “meant to be” partners/friends. There is in fact an antagonist (a shared one at that) and it is there all of s1 as a memory and as a destructive tenet; and later in s2 it’s there in the flesh: the “old” Cobra Kai.

Sure, we are re-introduced into the TKK universe via Johnny, but Johnny and Daniel have equal weight as protagonists. Cobra kai the show = their continuing, intertwining story and journey. That’s why the show /works/. The final beats of this episode is the true launching point of the show.

But Really what Johnny did in this is no different then what Miyogi did and both did the right thing beating up teenagers. Daniel needs have talk with his daughter. She and her friends were in a wreck then have a drinking party.
