I don't know if it's confirmed but I've definitely seen speculation that the running away is meant to be a metaphor for attempted suicide which they couldn't/didn't want to address more directly because of a young audience

I think this one has some important messages that get lost because by the time we reach it there is so much focus on the season arc and the mysteries surrounding Ruth, the timeless child, Jack, and the lone cyber man. The Nerdist has a good review of this episode that talks more about the issues explored here and how well they were handled.

Random Classic Who Fact #274: The Celestial Toymaker was played by Michael Gough, who also played Alfred in the Burton/Schumacher Batman films...

It was kinda interesting seeing an invested Calvin juxtaposed to a confused Eric here. Looking forward to the next episode.

It's interesting to see what lands with people and what doesn't. I loved this episode, and thought it was way better than the Tesla or Frankenstein episodes, but many disagree.

And this is why I don't like more than two companions in the TARDIS. We can't do all the companions justice without making a bit of a mess of any episode that tries to give them all character development. Honestly, I wish it was just the Doctor and Graham. Mainly because I like the concept of the Doctor traveling around with an older person every once in a while, instead of constantly being stuck with teenagers and twenty-somethings. Big Finish did it once with the Sixth Doctor, giving him a 55-year-old history professor named Evelyn to run around with. It was such a nice change of pace from the constant round of plucky kids.

So I thought Yaz's flashback was that Yaz ran off to kill herself and that the cop talked her out of that, and that was what they were having the anniversary dinner about.

The mental health messages in this really went over their head yeah.

I thought it was ok. You’re so close to being caught up! I hope you’ll react to CLASS after Doctor Who. It’s just 8 episodes and A LOT of DW related stuff in it.

So I thought this one was ok when I saw it, but it was only after I saw Council of Geeks Review and subsequent video that I think I really got it. I still don't love it but it made me understand why it didn't have as big an impact on me as it did some others. Not going to try and explain it as I won't do a good job but I'd recommend checking out those videos.
