Star Wars: The Last Jedi

You're the one dissing an entire fan base though. Ironic.

Cooper Vision

I have no problem with Luke being retired because his nephew killed a bunch of people and he couldn't stop it. But I think there's no way the Luke that wanted to forgive the nazi general that killed millions and proved the jedi of old to be wrong would not try to kill his nephew that is still conflicted, hasn't hurt people yet and is looking for help. He didn't just consider it he came to him in his sleep, light up his saber and raised it up. His experiences would lead him to be more accepting not less. I also don't like that Yoda is the one to tell him the old ways need to be let go since in the actual trilogy Luke was the one who wanted to do things differently and succeeded despite the old timers Yoda and ObiWan telling him to stick with the script. Still I like it because it helps the main characters of the the story be more compelling and a story should serve his main characters first and foremost.

Doby Greg

Fair enough, for me though, after what Luke went through with Vader even the thought of possibly killing Ben should have never crossed his mind.. Did he never learn from his experience with Vader? He goes to great lengths to save his father yet when he senses a hint of darkness in Ben he has the thought of killing his own nephew? Then he just runs away and cuts himself off from the force without trying to right his wrong with Ben? Helping Ben is child’s play compared to saving Vader.. sorry I’m not ranting at you at all lol , just passionate!

Deetz

He clearly didn't, he goes there to confront him about the darkness within him and then when he looks inside Ben's mind he thinks for a brief moment about killing him

Ryan Hicks

He very clearly went there with the intention to kill him hence him staring at him drawing his lightsaber, regardless it’s the fact that his character had already been through that with Vader and when he gets older he does it again? Just poor writing in my opinion, agree to disagree though!

Deetz

He wasn't willing to kill him though, he thought it about for a second or two at most, just like he was about to kill Vader in RotJ and then chose not to, it's not like he went there with the intention of killing him

Ryan Hicks

While I’m very happy these guys love the movie and anyone for that matter , there’s just way to much for me to dislike in this movie... I’m not gonna sit here and run through every gripe I had.. My one biggest issue is when people say Luke was handled well.. I just can’t buy into that, this is the guy who when everyone told him Vader must be killed he said no , he threw his weapon down in the face of the emperor and was willing to die to save his father and to save his friends.. Then he’s all of a sudden just willing to kill his nephew because he sensed the dark side?? Really?? That was my biggest gripe.. not arguing with anyone who liked the movie just wanted to share my opinion

Deetz

Ugh

MrSkarred

I am genuinely happy that the guys love this movie. I wish I could agree with them. There are a lot of issues I have with this movie. I always say that it's a great movie, but it's just not a great Star Wars movie. But with Luke. I agree with Eric about Luke having a moment of doubt when he turns the saber on and then instantly realizing his mistake is fine for Lukes character. That part is not the issue for me. The issue is after he made that mistake and lost Ben to the dark side, he just totally gave up and went into hiding to die alone. That is the part that I disagree with. I'm ok with him not being perfect and having a moment of weakness with Ben, but Luke wouldn't have just completely given up on his nephew like that. He didn't give up on his father who besides the Emperor was the most hated and evil guy in the galaxy. He wouldn't have given up on Leia's son. But I didn't need him to be the perfect hero of the story either. If they wanted to have him die failing to bring him back to the light side I'd of been fine with that. I just feel like Luke was the guy that always had hope above all else and this movie had him just all out of it. Just my opinion anyways.

Glynn Rockwell

It is not just you. Luke went from a new knight with the whole galaxy to look forward to. Then he goes through a order 66 kind of event. Unlike Calab Dume, Obi-Wan, Yoda, Cal, and other Jedi Luke simply game up. He ran away proving to everyone he does not deserve the title of Jedi Knight. He is a traitor and a coward.

Bruce E. Chmiel

Like I said, I get that. I understand he's depressed and feels shame and regret. But I don't like the "Oh, it's time for the Jedi to end!" and "no, I don't want to help you or my sister. Let me just sit here alone in the darkness." It's like yeah, I get that he has problems but get over it already and start behaving like an adult, or like a Jedi Master should. There are people who need you! It's just frustrating to watch. But maybe that's just me.

Nico

I wouldn't call a man who witnessed all his students get murdered whiny. I mean how is he whiny because he's sullen and depressed?

Gavin Allerton

Have Rick react to Episode 9 Trailer

Chris

Sure, I get you. But for me it's not really that. I personally just don't like how they made Luke into this whiny old man. I don't find that interesting at all. I just find it annoying to watch.

Nico

A good theory I’ve heard regarding Holdo is that tracking through light speed is practically unheard of technology, rose is a tech person and seems to be the only one who knows it. Poe just cost them their bombing fleet and was demoted. She could very well believe there’s a spy on board peeking their location to the first order and thus withholds from revealing the plan.

Hercule Pyro

People who think anything Luke does is out of character need a bit of a reality check. People just went into this film wanting Luke to be a force god and came out disappointed that he’s actually an old man with flaws. When the weight of the galaxy is put on your shoulders, and the expectations of billions. It’s likely that you’re going to break. And this film made Luke a severely more engaging and interesting character, and ultimately my favourite Star Wars character.

lewis is your patron

The fight might look great at first glance, but if you look at it even little bit more, it is the worst fight in the whole franchise.

Sojtus

Throne room fight was shit and Rey should have realisticly stood no chance what so ever against someone remotely as skilled as the Praetorian Guards

Duke

This comment section, like most for this movie, is the exact reason why people despise this fandom. Like the movie, don’t or everything inbetween, but these arguments against are still fucking garbage two years later. Throne room fight was dope (fuck off with that “but if you REALLY pay attention to it”), and like all star wars movies it has bad parts in it. And then all this ‘canon’ nonsense. Star wars canon is so fucked, the only place it should end up is the trashbin.

Dave van der Kuyp

The fight in Snokes throneroom is one of the WORST fights I've ever seen. The timing is all of, you can clearly see the stuntmen/women rotate out of frame after "trying" to hit Kylo or Rey. They're going in one by one so that the actors can react to each attack and if they're off timing they're just standing in the background rotating their weapons. Its so stupid its funny if you know what to look for. Ruined the climax for me in this money, couldnt take it seriously after that.

Victor Törner

I don't have a huge issue with the character choices in this movie that is where they wanted the story to go ok. My biggest issue is the film making itself from the script writing to the direction. Look at your 3 main characters Finn goes off to a casino planet and does nothing that moves the plot forward. He then goes to the first order ship and does nothing there that moves the plot forward. Next he goes to the salt planet and this time he is flying out to fight in the battle to help...oh wait again he does nothing. Next you have Poe whose arc is what exactly learn to blindly follow orders? Not sure on that one. Now we have Rey who is the only one that moves the plot of the movie. It is simply not good movie making. The very un-even tone of the movie constantly pulled me out. A lot of the jokes were way to forced. Have Luke turn against his path and be ashamed fine, make Rey's parents no one important fine, destory the rebels to rebuild them(?) fine, those are creative choices but put them in a better made movie. I was even fine with Lukes death and that final fight like I said the creative choices for the characters paths are not an issue for me.

SentientNPC

i was just about to ask the same thing, maybe tomorrow.

Jens B

Shouldn't there be a new poll to vote for the next Movie Reaction?

AlanBYW

I like this movie. Even better than awaken. There are several problems but the rapport between Rey and Kylo got me really invested And Hamill is a great actor. I also felt it built instead of being a rethread. The main character I like more at the end of this. I didn't like Po and his gunho approach got a reprimand. I thought Rey was too muych a Mary Sue but in this one she just ok strength wise and has real interraction beyond being awesome to others. She'not just right, she learns from others while also helping them see other perspective. Kylo was too much of an angry boy for me. In this one we see how his family losing faith in him when he was trying has pushed him away. Fynn is less of a comedic relief. I don't buy the Luke moment but I like what it does for the story of Rey and Kylo. Moment I just don't like would be Yoda giving Luke advice on letting go of the old ways. It's waxing the Yoda love without remembering what the dynamic was between the two. Yoda & Obiwan were the ones obsess with the old ways while Luke proved them wrong. Also dont like Force ghost having powers.

Doby Greg

My biggest problem with this movie, of which there are many, (and I'm someone who does like it)...is my Mon Cala boi Ackbar getting unceremoniously spaced. Should've been him instead of Holdo making the lightspeed kamikaze attack. F to pay respects.

Carlos

Also the Throne room fight is soooooo bad holy shit if you actually watch it and pay attention the choreography is so fucked up lol

MustacheKash

The problem with Eric saying it doesnt matte rwho Rey is cus we dont care about obi wan and other its not the same AT ALL we got a entire movie and new trilogy based on who is this girl and 7 set up that Anakins saber called to her for a reason Han knows who shes is and Maz asks whos the girl and it cuts away with that look on his face you cant just have her parents be no one of importance otherwise its the stupidest thing ever

MustacheKash

been waiting for ricks reaction to this 😂

BooBooKitty

It's not just that people were theorizing about Snoke's origin for two years, canon was also laying down the pieces for the reveal in the books, contributing to the hype and speculation... The Aftermath trilogy pretty much set up everything and all ep8 needed to do was put in the final piece of the puzzle to to tie it all together and confirm what fans were already assuming to this day from the ending of those books. They could have even done it with one throwaway line during the "rabid cur" scene... Since Hux was there as a kid with the remnant fleet in the Unknown Region when they find the Emperor's missing Star Destroyer... If for example Snoke purged the remnant leadership and kept Hux alive as the "rabid cur". As someone who likes TLJ for the most part, the way they handled Snoke is still my biggest problem with it, and it's not the fact that they killed him off, that's fine. But I really feel they needed to reveal more about him and build him up a bit more as an "ultimate evil" before going for the subversive kill, the moment would have been even more impactful. A lot of my feelings do probably do stem from reading the Aftermath trilogy and how it sets everything up so nicely for the reveal without actually confirming anything.

I know many don't like this film. I think it's like marmite. You either love it or hate it. I know people hated Luke's character but let's think of a hypothetical real world equivalent. You save money to make a private school and you wanted to be a teacher all your life. Then your nephew attends among many others and he's is one of your best students. Then he starts misbehaving and getting in trouble with the police and you eventually have to expel him. Then he lures other students from the school, makes a gang and ultimately burns down your pride and joy. Go forward 10 to 20 year's and try to imagine how that feels. I'd wager not much better than Luke I would imagine. And he was supposed to be the chosen one which was an even greater loss. That's what I think and my opinion. Everyone is entitled to their's. 😉

Alan Collings

every episode has its filler lol. apart from new hope and esb

Goostous

...How??? That's such a poorly choreographed fight scene....They had to literally photoshop out one of the guards weapons (a dagger) to hide the fact that Rye should have died in the middle of the fight. I agree the idea of the scene was really good, but so poorly executed.

Talmet

I was a Star Wars fanatic when i was a kid, back in the 70s and 80s. Nowadays, i'm more of a Star Wars liker. TPM really put a damper on my expectations for SW movies in general, and none of the prequels did much to help. TFA was ok but relied too much on nostalgia for my taste. I understand why they did what they did with TFA, though. They had to reassure SW fans that they could still make good SW movies. But i wanted something different for the next outing. I got it. I don't care how many haters TLJ has, it's like it was tailor made to suit my tastes and it's my favourite SW film after ESB. But J.J. is back in the director's chair for Rise of Skywalker (the worst title of any SW film) and my excitement level is low again.

Opti_Frog

Second time i've seen it, once was enough

David Moyes

You're totally right, how he went from the literal hope of the rebellion, the one who doesn't give up on people, to oh I should kill this kid because I had a feeling he could end up bad.

FosterFarms

To be fair for me I had a hard time seeing the problems with it until my second viewing, I mean that's how it normally is for me with movies I need a day or two to reflect and get off the movie high. Though I did notice problems the first time I watched it, I didn't hate it until the second time.

FosterFarms

Can't believe a star wars movie basically had a "filler" episode during the movie. Just as a movie I still think it's a subpar movie.

Cristian1818

I was really holding out HOPE that Rick would HATE this movie. However, I guess its hard to dislike something when you have such a quality group sitting next to you cheering it on.

llB0JANGLESll

Soo, about Shane's wish - did Rick react to the trailer of Ep. IX? :D

Holy shit this movie is soooo garbage

AnEnthusiasticKoala

I'm no Star Wars buff, I don't claim to be an expert on what "feels like star wars" and what doesn't, or on what follows or breaks "canon." My dislike of the movie has nothing to do with any of that. All I know, is this was the first star wars movie I ever felt bored sitting through. It just didn't entertain me at all.

Woodsie89

Someone else summed it up well; first Star Wars movie to not feel like Star Wars for me. From the ‘comedy’ to the plot devices (really? Low on gas?), to the mishandling of strongly established characters, it just felt wrong.

Champion Bescos

I dont hate this movie either but i completely agree MOB... This is my least favorite of all Star Wars including shows and or any movies... This was the first time since 1999 that a Star Wars movie I saw just didn't feel remotely like star wars. Alot of the comedy didnt work for me, not that it wasn't funny but alot seemed out of place Rose Tycos character being completely redudant had no purpose other than to take away Finn's hero sacrifice moment. AND OMG could you imagine her saying that bs to ARAGORN AT THE BLACK GATE!!! We win by saving who we love and not hurting our enemies. And other things I disliked but there were definitely good moments. My biggest fear is Rick is gonna not like and Eric and Shane are going to try to do whatever they can to defend and justify this crap.

Garrett Gee

I liked all the Luke, Kylo and Rey scenes. The rest of the movie felt like an elementary school student wrote it. Especially cringy was all the stuff on Canto Bight. I give the movie a 6.5 out of 10.

Mr. Big Stuff

His split second mistake seemed completely out of character like.he never would of even gotten to that point. So no that doesnt justify it enough for me. Maybe if they do a whole movie about just Old Luke and every single moment leading up to and after that then I'll believe it more. This movie just has some good moments that's really all it amounts to for me. Hopefully episode 9 is better

MOB12

He died being the myth everyone heard about, he died bringing hope back to the galaxy and saving his friends and loved ones. That's exactly how he'd die imo.

Ed Alvey

They literally explain what happened to Luke in the movie, he made a split second mistake and it cost him his Academy, his students and his Nephew all in one.

Ed Alvey

I dont hate this movie and it has good moments but I still dont like how they did Luke at all. If someone wants to try and convince me he was in character I'm all ears but to me and (from Mark Hamil himself) he seemed completely out of character. Like something obviously happened during those years beyond just a "feeling" and they never expanded upon it

MOB12

that and the entire Rose and Finn casino heist mech battle plot line. Could have completely taken that entire thing out.

Erich Bomke

Okay so. I love the Luke stuff in this movie but I HATE that he died like that. and when people say that's not Luke there saying he wouldn't die that way

Deadpool

Yeah... it has good moments, in fact one of my favorite Star Wars scenes ever (guards vs Rey and Ben) but overall I find it really weak.

JevCor

Has Rick seen Star Wars: Always yet because if he hasn't he should

Julian Rivera

Or a different opinion.

The Divided One

I almost always manage to get wrapped up in the guys' passion, even when I dont like a show or movie they're reacting to, but man seeing this movie for the second time....it's just really not good.

KevinFromNewYork

Why troll? I have a poster of this movie in my living room, I do love this movie haha

Alberto Urbina

What a troll

Erich Bomke

Great great movie

Alberto Urbina

I just had so many expectations for the movie that I ended up kind of disappointed by the progression, although I still enjoyed the movie overall.

Cornberry

I had a feeling that Rick's overall impression of this movie was going to be positive and I'm glad to find out that I was right. High highs and low lows is a good description of this one, but the highs absolutely outweigh the lows in my opinion. And I completely agree that the Luke stuff was NOT out of character. I loved his arc in this movie.

ZombieMom73

I think the worst part of this movie was the promise of a new unique story to just fall back on the classic good vs evil tropes by the end.

Gavin Hardiman

Upgraded to full length, let’s do this!
