I think it's also the legacy. 10-13-year-old kids going to the theater to see their favorite show on the big screen and seeing how it's 'nothing like the cartoon' and it gets hate and then that rolls into ~10 years of shitting on it and then creates this legacy of being this 'god awful movie' when it's really just a 6/10

Fun fact: my uncle was actually in this movie as one of the air temple monks. The rest of my family was also supposed to be extras in one of the scenes in the Earth Kingdom, but their scene got cut. My older brother and I were literally the only ones in my entire extended family that got turned away.

I agree with Shane. Didn't love the movie but didn't hate it either. I feel like many times people think that everything has to be either the Best Thing Ever or the Worst Thing Ever. Usually the latter because negative emotions are much more powerful than positive. That's why there's complaint forums everywhere on the internet. There rarely seems to be room for any nuance. Star Wars and GoT are good examples.

See, I find this worse then Dragonball evolution, simply because here, they tried to make a faithful adaptation that the fans would enjoy, and just completely failed, I cringe watching it. Dragonball, on the other hand, it's so clear that they wren't even trying to adapt that actual story from the anime/manga, and were just doing whatever the felt like, so I can completely divorce myself from the source material, and just laugh and enjoy it for how bad it is. It's one of those ones that soo bad, that I can enjoy if for how bad it is, lol. Which just makes it better.

I still can’t sit through the movie it just triggers so bad. If there was a sequel out today I wouldn’t rush to see it I’d maybe watch if I was bored, browsing through Netflix or something. It’s cool to see the world in live action but fmd the plot sucks, the characters are dry, the names and ethnicities are washed and the you need more than big budgets and fancy cgi to be a decent movie. I’d rewatch 90s Power Rangers over this any day.

I enjoy those reactions for perspective. I wouldn't be able to watch this movie objectively. But watching people react to key parts helps put some distance and nuance stuff.

Ikr. I get watching so bad it's good movies {I still watch the Schumacher Batman movies for this reason}. But this movie is bad in the wrong ways. Movies like the Schumacher batman films or The Room are fun because they are so over the top bad that it makes you laugh at the absurdity. Shyamalan's crapfest on the other hand is soulless with no joy or passion behind it and it's also incredibly boring and an eyesore.

I was a kid when I watched the series when it came out and saw this in theaters and me and my cousin thought it was trash 10 minutes into the movie like this is terrible I cant fathom how they dont mind this movie just blows my mind lol

I mean at the end of the day it's ultimately harmless. This isn't like Batman v Superman where you knew it was going to get a sequel REGARDLESS of quality. It clearly didn't doom the Avatar franchise since Korra came out shortly after this. And say what you want about Korra as a whole, but it had way more of an impact than this movie ever did. Because like Shane said, it's not very memorable. Even that hilarious earth bending scene will just be forgotten about in like a day. And that's being generous.

This is the only movie I've ever seen in theaters that I almost got up and walked out on. I was so excited to go see this movie when it came out and felt so let down when it was over. Too much exposition, The acting was horrible with so little emotion in their performances, and the run time was far too short to properly tell the story. They took out parts that should have been included and left in parts that could have been omitted. M. Night was simply the worst person to write this. It feels like he read a SYNOPSIS of the 1st book and then decided to "reimagine" it instead of staying true to the source. Plus the change to pronunciations of the names....cringe.

If I'm not mistaken, M. Night Shyamlan had like 16 hours of recorded footage to cut down to an hour half. I think it's in the Book of Fire extras disc. You'd have to look it up but it was something like that. Haven't looked at the extras in like 5 years but somehow I kept that detail if it is correct.

There is very little redemption in this clusterfuck of a film.

I think the best thing about this movie is that it proved that a live action adaptation could work, even if that one didn’t. The parts of bending that worked really worked. The sets and costumes were also believable. It just makes the hype for the Netflix show even more

Dont get me started on earth benders being on the ground, taking 100 guys move ONE FREAKEN ROCK? The fire benders needing fire that could be put out soooo easily, the 400 moves it took to do any moves.

The thing I didnt like the most is it felt like they didnt watch the show even tho they said they did. The messed up the names and rushed the hell out of the plot. It felt like they just read the spark notes. You get no character development and the actors only had one note. Sakka and aang werent funny. The plot are insanely rushed also. They gave aang the speech to the earth benders. Why? That was a huge scene for katara. Sakka didnt meet suki and learn to respect woman, lost. The dialogue dumps were ridiculous. Momo and appa just felt there. Not as charachters but props. They had huge roles in the show. In this zuko hasnt even chased them. They have no connection to the group at all. That an ENORMOUS part of the show and zukos character. When katara and zuko fight at the northern water tribe they had huge history, he took her necklace, in this THATS WHERE THEY MEET FOR THE FIRST TIME. First time they meet in the movie is at the end. WTF. Zuko and Zhou had huge history agni kai in 3rd episode. They didn't do anything in this movie. Zhou got Killed? By 4 random guys? Why? I just feel rhe really shit on the source material, my favourite show of all time. This is my least favorite movie of all time becuase of that.

Being a fan makes you an educated critic. It's not something you should try to forget. Also the designs were fine. Its only that everything felt unlived. Most of the areas felt like sets, rather than another world. The actors are equally lifeless in the way they emote--also regarding their emotional range. And they left out character development without replacing it with something else (so Katara and Sokka felt unimportant).
