I'm going to answer everyone in this one post. I got the point of the show just fine @MrSkarred. We are folowing the life of a serial killer. @Jake O'Shea, being the shows protagonist, doesn't make the character a good person or some that should be cheered for. @Justin H'oman You seem to disregard the fact that Dexter is a serial killer. He isn't killing people that deserve because he thinks its the right thing to do. He is a psychopath that was put on a leash by his adoptive father Harry. If Harry hadn't done everything he could to control Dexter, you think he would still only be killing "bad people"? He is a murderer who also breaks countless other laws to pursue and cover up his killing spree. That isn't an anti-hero. That is a villain.
