Father knew or expected if the new Greed turned on him again that he would try to hijack his plan for himself. With that knowledge it made it easy for Father to trick him as we saw here. Greed wants everything so it makes sense for him to try to attack his dad and take it for himself.

The Truth/God itself is independent of any one person's, but each individual has their own path inside them that they can access to seek greater knowledge of the universe. Direct access to the gate of truth (Essentially looking into the face of god) always comes with consequences as it's more than any individual is meant to see or comprehend. The gate is there, it's part of the soul, connecting you to "god", but you aren't meant to directly interact with it.
