Catching arrows with your hand? Didn't mythbusters bust that one?

Yeah, it's more of a honorific title and nothing more. And yes, Rick was talking about the consuls of the Roman republic, but that office didn't have anything to do with this scene. Despite the fall of Western Roman Empire 500 years before, rulers still tried to emulate them and link their rule to old imperial Rome.

Parrying real arrows isn't really a thing. Even in japan where there is a martial art dedicated to it guys train decades and still need to use underpowered bows and drag arrows to do it reliably. In truth it is much easier to dodge an arrow than to parry it so why would anyone bother.

Not sure if that is accurate..Viking armour and swords were of a poor standard in comparison to English weapons and armour at that time.In fact as i understand it owning a good sword for a Viking was a point of honor and usually taking in exchange or plundered. So foriegn in origin not nordic at all mainly Frankish or Anglo-Saxon.I think the vikings had the broadaxe edge...since cheaper than sword the large axe has been found buried with many Viking warriors.

Shane is right, about the consul situation. I think Rick was describing the role of consul in the roman empire/republic. Where this is set 500 years after the fall of the western roman empire. This is circa 900 AD not 1200, you guys should look up some european history,

The people refer to themselves as Norse or Northmen. The term Viking is the occupation the Northmen that went on raids would reference. For example I'm on a Viking. Also the real Northmen wore armor similar to what the English wore. In fact the Danes at the time had the best armor. The only thing really that set them part from the Franks, Saxon or the Celts was that the Norse were Pagan. The weapons and armor were similar.

VIKINGS! But does this mean Torchwood will be up even later? I guess I'll have to watch it tomorrow morning.
