I think the line about him being a father is just a reminder about everyone he's lost. It's not just all of his people that are dead, but all of his family as well. This episode isn't well loved because it is a little silly but I always found it charming. Can't wait for you guys to see the next two episodes! Loved your reactions as usual!

Amazing thumbnail. People really seem to hate this episode. I'm pretty meh about it--it's not great, but it's not as bad as "The Idiot's Lantern."

FUN FACT: During the time of the London Olympics It was Matts Smiths Time as the Doctor so he actually got to be the torch bearer for a length of the route. not entirely sure if it was because this episode but its a fun connection from the tv to a real life event
