Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood Episode 3 Reaction Early Access!

Nice Spoiler bro. Its good they don't look at these

...oh shit

Sky Sirak

Okay, I'm going to say something unpopular here, but I feel it needs to be said: this episode is a MESS. It's been about 10 years to the day that I began watching FMA, and so coming into Brotherhood as a newbie, I expected it to flow better because every fan SWEARING that it was a tighter story, better pacing, etc. I'm 3 episodes in, and I have to say that if you know NOTHING of the first series coming in, you're going to be VERY confused. From what I can recall, this episode was the canonical pilot of the 1st series (and I'm not sure why it's here, since it states no new information and just recaps what we already know from THIS series' pilot). So far, it looks like FMA:B is a dramatic abridging, and unfortunately, skips over key details that might have made the narrative more cohesive - for example, that Father Cornello was VISUALLY bringing something back to make the townsfolk and Rose believe that he was truly able to bring people back from the dead. Without this detail, it makes Rose look completely brainless, and Edward like a jackass, because despite this guy building a false religion...the townsfolk are happy, kind to strangers, and apparently doing just fine under his influence. When he's outed, the place just descends into chaos. FMA took it's time developing the story and characters so that this interesting battle of morality might be better addressed, but here, it's barely an afterthought, and kind of a waste of time. I think I remember reading the manga and finding it surprisingly very funny - this chapter had some fun commentary and didn't take itself so seriously; however, both anime series seem determined to make this as dramatic as possible (note: the opening theme does NOT make me want to go on grand, hopeful adventures like with "Ready Steady Go". It makes me want to sit in a corner and be sad. Woo, adventure...*sob*). Cornello turning into a giant for some reason but being perfectly fine, despite the ground rules already set...I don't have a comment. It was pointless, so I will pretend that it didn't happen. I hate to be so cynical about what looks like MIGHT become a very decent show, but it's off to a very rocky start so far. Here's hoping that it will pick up and get it's grip - on to episode 4!

Sky Sirak

damn i gotta watch this again ,i can't wait for you guys to et used to it and understand more *it's SO good* <3

Matis

I'm also excited for next episode

Alberto Urbina

Eric is correct about the whole natural vs supernatural thing. Science is natural philosophy. Supernatural is defined as exactly not that.

Koala Banana

You didn't miss any actual after-credits scenes, but there are two other things they should be looking for, for episode 45 the ending has different visuals that help you understand what happens in between that episode en ep 46, the other thing is that ep 54 has a scene that plays at the same time the ending song plays (the song plays in the background), oh and of course they shouldn't miss the credits for the last episode 64. :D

Ever Beltran

Blind Wave: There are extra scenes after the credits of episodes 6, 8, 28, 29, 30, 32, 33, 36, 40, 42, 43, 44, 46, 48, 49. Most, if not all, are important in their own way, and will save you from future confusion regarding certain scenes during episodes. (If I’ve missed any episodes out, someone feel free to correct me in a response)

Lisa Marie

According to the creator of the series, the FMA world is an alternative universe version of Germany during World War I and II. Also Ed and Al's ages are 15 and 14 respectively. During the flashbacks in the last episode I believe they were 11 and 12.

Vincent Rice

Anyone can do ANY type of Alchemy with the right knowledge and the right transmutation circle. They just have to know what they are using and what they are turning it into. Most alchemists choose one specialty.

Wilhenro

Just a quick comment on the "thing" in the portal. It says that god is one possible name. Here's the quote from the second episode: "I am called by many names. I am the world, I am the universe, I am god, I am truth. I am all, I am one, and I am also you."

Gard Skarsten

Btw, in alchemy of this world, modification of human body could be done and it is possible. But what is considered to be taboo is "to Create a Human".

Roda Shin

Honestly two episodes a week would be great so that we don't spend 60 weeks finishing the series.

SolidStro

from full metal alchmist

if i recall correctly its set in 1911 1913 sometime very close to WW1

I really wish you guys could react to two episodes a week at least... I only paid to watch this series on patreon. Also, each episode is not so long, and it has 60+ episodes in total. So if you watch it in faster pace, it will help you understand better at the same time.

Roda Shin

They have to cut a lot to avoid copyright issues, unfortunately. I agree that I can't wait for them to get further into it.

Andrew Reise

This is important ^^ I also noticed the episodes they're watching don't have the English translation for the text on screen.

Ever Beltran

Vic Mignogna does Ed's voice on FMA: Brotherhood, and I don't see him listed in the cast list for Shaman King so I'm guessing no.

Exactly. It's rearranging atoms into different shapes/elements.

Lurkingposter

we need 3 ep a week

Ray Souza

we need 2 ep a week

hamad

They have been told about the after-credit scenes, let's just hope they don't forget.

Ever Beltran

also, don´t cut so many scenes, it´s priceless

Ray Souza

i can´t wait to shit start to get real

Ray Souza

Ugh...I can't wait for one episode a week. Hopefully next poll will include increasing FMA:B to two weeks

Greg Alan

exactly

Trent Deuster

Jesus H Christ. Science is method of understanding the world around us. Supernatural is not included in science because it lacks demonstrable evidence. The minute we have reliable evidence of a soul, vampires, werewolves, etc., these things would be considered natural and apart of science.

Lurkingposter

Everything gets explained fairly well. How alchemy works, the philosopher stone, all the different alchemists and so on. It takes a few episodes to understand the characters and the world they live in.

Nicholas Roca

Is the guy who plays the main characters voice also the guy who plays Yoh's friend from Shaman King?

I started doing the same thing! Only made it to episode 14 so far.

Tina L

Question; are they streaming the episodes or do they have DVDs ? Another youtuber I've been watching is watching a dub version that doesn't translate any of the Japanese text that sometimes pops up as thought bubbles or explanations. The dub version I've been watching on Crunchyroll does translate them. So I'm just wondering if the version they're using will have that text translated or not, they might miss some tidbits of information if not

Brendan Horn

I started to rewatch the series last week when the 1st 2 episodes went up because I felt like I had forgotten or gotten really fuzzy on a lot of it, and now I'm all the way to episode 40. Now I'm super hyped for what's coming in future episodes.

Brendan Horn

it's transmutation not trans-modification GET IT RIGHT lol XD

Habbit44

@JojoInSpace I'm wondering what the thumbnail for the next episode will be! Excited!

AnnoyingRanter

I love that two of their thumbnails this far has just been various versions of horror and disgust, which to be fair, is a pretty reasonable reaction to a lot of the stuff going on.

JojoInSpace

So, I'm sure the Blind Wave crew is avoiding the next episode previews after the credits. But has anyone informed them that sometimes there are extra scenes between the credits and preview? Specifically episodes 6 and 8 in the near future (and then no more for quite a while until 28 and on).

TheUndeadFish

the original fma did this arc good justice. Fmab just tries to do a recap for the first 10+ eps. It's really a shame :(

Loving the discussion

Thilde

Greatly enjoyed the discussion! Like many have said, you'll start to better understand it as you move along. Once you get it, you'll be able to pick up on story beats before they happen or understand certain foreshadowing. Definitely excited for the next episode, which I consider one of the best in the entire anime. You'll see why once you see it.

AnnoyingRanter

It's more like it has such a high alchemical value that it appears to ignore the law.

EldrinJak

You'll figure it all out. We all did.

Gezno

Your gonna have longer Reactions with anime shows rather then Avatar or Young Justice. Especially complicated themes that Full Metal has.

Skeletor

You never discussed this so I'm not sure if you got it but the philosopher's stone can ignore the law of equivalent exchange.

Zeemod

I was only half paying attention to your discussion afterwards while multitasking, so you might have touch on this and I didn't hear. However, one of the reasons Ed doesn't really believe in religions, which he briefly touched on in this episode, is because he literally met God, the Truth from the last episode, so unless someone's religion is directly based on that, he's probably inclined to not believe it. But yeah, there's also the whole strong adherence to science and proven facts and such.

Subaru130

Alchemy is advanced science and the understanding of chemistry and the transformation of matter. There's the basics of alchemy and then there are specified areas of expertise that make each state alchemist unique.

Ghost

The "lightning" Aaron keeps referring to is just the visual representation of Alchemy occurring.

EldrinJak

Can you really only do six minutes per episode? :(

Zeemod

"Alphonso" Ooh boy. Lol It's Alphonse.

EldrinJak

Oooh a long one! Excited!

EldrinJak

Yay, nice long video :)
