John is a living master class of thematic writing and orchestration, especially in his work on this film. This is the powerful capstone track of our two hero’s themes that everyone knows, but it really sits on the surface of the depth and development of the entire score (but 16 horns sure fuckin’ rocks!)

Yes, this is the fist time he successfully rides toothless, so that scene your describing is the scene, the scary bit is either him falling and getting caught, or him nearly falling, i forget. John powell's done a bit of stuff, in addition to this he did chicken run, the kung fu panda's, multiple how to train your dragons, the bourne identities, happy feet, shrek, and much more, id put him up there like john williams, a master of his craft, althought most of his music is either in kids films, or fun for the whole family type films.
