2025-04-07 18:58:03 +0000 UTCThat weird exchange at the start where Shirogane looked up the word obvious is actually a lost in translation joke where Chika is saying the word “futsuu” meaning “normal” but it’s Kanji is a homophone for “stop”. Basically in the scene she’s questioning if Shirogane’s thinking is normal, he wonders what “normal thinking” is anyway so looks it up on his phone but the phone mistakes it for “stop” which shows him the trains have been stopped. Both the official sub and dub, and the unofficial fan translation completely missed this which leads to every translation of the scene reading as a little clunky/weird. It’s not a big deal at all because the anime moves past it quite quickly but I always find stuff like that really interesting, goes to show how hard translation can be.
