I like how anime can vary so much from focusing on anime titty jiggle physics (HOTD) to philosophical discussions (Vinland Saga) to cute girls doing cute things and playing music together (Bocchi, Girls Band Cry) back to depressing ass episodes (Violet Evergarden) that make anyone cry.

If you like this show, you should watch psycho pass too. Fate zero is written by him too.

I completely agree with you regarding Kiritsugu Emiya's philosophy. His view that war stands in direct opposition to life, and that victors often conveniently overlook the suffering and tragedy of the defeated, is a profound critique of conflict. Interestingly, a similar philosophical resonance can be found in Thorfinn’s journey in Vinland Saga Season 2. However, I think the difference lies in how these two characters act on their beliefs. Thorfinn seeks to resolve this dilemma by avoiding confrontation and striving for alternative means to achieve peace, emphasizing a path of personal growth and redemption. In contrast, Kiritsugu takes an uncompromising approach, believing that any atrocity is justified if there is even the slightest chance that the Holy Grail can eradicate all war. This stark difference highlights the ethical divide between the two: Thorfinn chooses to confront the cycle of violence with non-violence, while Kiritsugu perpetuates it, hoping the ends will justify the means.

The ELI5 is that Kiritsugu forced bald wizard to sign a magically binding contract that forced baldy to use the command seal that he just mooched from the priest to force his servant, Lancer, to commit suicide immediately. In return, Kiritsugu was not permitted to kill either of the two Masters personally. Each Master gets 3 command seals to begin with, and they can consume one seal to compel their Servant to do something if it would otherwise be against their will. If a master is forced to use all 3 seals, they no longer have the power to compel their Servant.

Wouldn't worry too much about not getting stuff in this series. You start to really understand it when you combine it with the other Fate series like Fate/UBW or Heavens feel

The like you're 5 explanation: Start of the episode Kiritsugu's assistant kidnaps the fiance of wheelchair who is the current command spell holder for Lancer. Kiritsugu tells saber the location of Wheelchair and Lancer so she starts her fight up again with Lancer to distract him as he approaches Wheelchair with the contract that states that Kiritsugu will not kill him or his fiance if he uses his command spell to have Lancer kill himself. Wheelchair decides to save his fiance and so Lancer stabs himself and curses Kiritsugu for interrupting his duel in such a way. And obviously as you saw Kiritsugu's contract had a loophole so he could get rid of all his problems right then and there

Danyul

If you're confused by the contract scene simply it's a magic contract that binds the soul so you can't break it. Kiritsugu's terms were that if Kayneth made Lancer kill himself thus losing his last command spell and servant he would not be able to kill hurt him or his wife who he was currently holding hostage.

This is probably my favorite episode of the entire series. It shows how truly disparate Kiritsugu and Saber's views are, and the way things end for Lancer and his masters is just...so...perfectly anticlimactic and cruel. It was not the ending for their story that I expected on my first watch but it was all so well orchestrated and felt so right for the characters involved, it really sealed this as one of my top shows of all time.

What a way to go out, gotta feel sorry for the guy. Diarmuid ua Duibhne, also known as Diarmuid of the Love Spot, is a hero and demigod in the Fenian Cycle of Irish mythology. His title of Diarmuid of the Love Spot was given to him due to a magical love spot granted to him by a young girl. Any woman who gazes upon the spot instantly falls in love with him, which eventually leads to an encounter with Grainne, the bride of Fionn mac Cumhaill. Gráinne, having fallen in love with Diarmuid at her wedding party, placed a geis upon him to run away with her. Even while at large, Diarmuid stayed loyal to Fionn and didn't lay a hand on Gráinne. Eventually Fionn decided to recognize their marriage and welcomed them back as subjects. Sometime later while hunting with Fionn, Diarmuid was fatally injured by a Demon Boar. Fionn who had to ability to heal decided not to help as he still held a grudge over the incident with Gráinne, eventually deciding to let Diarmuid die. Now as a servant in the Holly Grail War his only wish and desire is to server his lord (master) with absolute loyalty, but it seems that his past is repeating again. With the fiance of his master falling for him, and his life ending with his beliefs being shattered. His noble phantasm Crimson Rose of Exorcism & Yellow Rose of Mortality (rank B+ anti- unit) are the two spears wielded by Diarmuid that allow him to bypass magical defenses from opponents and leave lasting injuries that won't heal unless the yellow spears is destroyed, or Diarmuid himself is taken out. Dude just wanted to serve and have a good time but damm...... GG
