Scylla reveal + Devlog #122 + Monstergirl poll #47 is on!

Scylla!
Designing her was a bit of a challenge! Her mods were Slosh (aka boob bounce), Look at this catch!, and Long hair (gets longer with rank). Slosh and Long hair weren't much of an issue, but "Look at this catch!" and the Scylla species itself were pretty difficult. I considered a lot of poses related to the caught fish, how would she be holding it and displaying it. I considered more of a crazed look / personality at first but wasn't very satisfied with that, so I gave up on that train of thought and decided to start with the species. There are a bunch of depictions of Scylla, but something common I knew I wanted was the human upper body and the tentacles lower body. There are also depictions of her with multiple wolf heads at her waist, which is a wild idea, and it's also part of one of my first exposures to Scylla from Symphony of the Night. So I knew that I wanted to reference that in some way, but the problems I encountered were that it's first of all a pain to draw, that multiple wolf heads is a lot and would make for a very busy design and that Amazon already has a one. After giving it a bunch of thought, I had the idea to instead fuse faces with the tentacles themselves, and what they had to look like just popped in my mind! I was really happy with the idea and I think it's the perfect mix between including that concept without busying the design! It's just cool ^^
For the upper body, I felt like it would be interesting to make it very angular, which is why her shoulders, arms, hips, torso and hair have a lot of sharp angles. In the end, I just naturally ended up with a much cuter feel for her than I originally intended through experimenting with the pose, but it works great! I'm just very happy ^^
Helm really did an excellent job with her, he really really nailed it. it's also worth noting that her boobs ended up bigger thanks to him :B

I'm still waiting on the next GameMaker version, so no coding still! But that doesn't mean I didn't get busy.
I finished a bunch of designs over the last few months, including some really complex ones. I was starting to really feel my design limit approaching so I had to switch to something else for a bit. Instead, I chose to rework Sablee ocean! Its current layout is from the old old demo where the ocean was basically half the content. For that reason, I had to make it chunky! It had been there for so long that I basically considered it finished, but as it turns out it's definitely too long for an intro dungeon now! I managed to rethink it in a way that makes it smaller and much faster to go through while still keeping the important part and the overall feel. Several Fei petal puzzles have been removed though! I'll reuse them somewhere else eventually. All the previous rooms are reusable too so actually implementing this new layout will be fast! ^^
In the same vein, I also slightly improvement the Biscotti tunnels and even drew a new asset for it, whoa...
Since I was drawing, I figured it was time to redesign the HP and defense stat icons. The current ones are kinda confusing, they don't really translate their meaning well at a glance. It was surprisingly tough to find something that worked, but I think I struck a good enough balance with these new ones.

After that, I put some serious work into the secret BE mechanic I mentioned before! I took the time to write a huge technical doc going over every aspect of it, preparing it as optimally as I could, figuring out the kinks, the required resources... Everything I could think of to make its implementation as smooth as possible once I can code again.
Since I was typing, I figured I'd write dialogue too! A new cutscene, a bunch of party events, a few edits here and there, post rank up dialogue for Rose and T... All done and ready to be implemented as well!

So yeah, very good stuff ^^

More also happened on the chibi BE side and on the audio side, but nothing I'm ready to share yet.
I also got pretty busy with IRL stuff again, and it might get even worse in May. I'll barely be available from the 14th to the 19th, but good things are happening ^^

Oh, and I'll have a little surprise soon too! I'll post that on Discord and social medias :B

So yeah, a bit of a short devlog this time since I don't have a lot to actually share, but things are going well! I'll aim to design a few more monstergirls in May, maybe even draw one myself for a change, and hopefully the next GameMaker update will be coming out soon! Q2 2025 is apparently their goal.

The poll will be active until the 12th of this month. After this, you will be able to change your submitted modifiers until the 15th. Finally, the two rounds of the modifier poll will take one week each afterwards.
