Making of Timelapse video
Added 2020-02-05 06:41:42 +0000 UTCOne of the key lessons from teaching has always been that you should do it once to learn, then again to teach. So of course I started recording myself doing the After Effects composition of timelapse video while having no idea how to do timelapse in After Effects. Thankfully the PC took pity on me, and decided to crash in mid-composition.
So I redid it from scratch, but this time having some actual idea how to do the tasks involved. I'm very much a newbie at After Effects, but I love seeing the results. Total assembly (the second time) was 8 minutes. Then 20 minutes rendering it out, before discovering that I'd forgot to resize one of the videos, followed by another 20 minutes of rendering interspersed with swearing at the PC.
The end result was a 38GB (yes, that's a G) for the 3 minute long video. I guess AE's roots in motion graphics and movies means that everything has to be exported with no lossy compression. I then ran it through a converter to get a 34MB WebM file.
