Canute was not looking like a fool. Nobody looked at him like that either. Thorfinn also did not make Canute look stupid. 1 episode ago thorfinn called Canute an incredible man. You missed the whole point of the conversation

2024-09-15 02:11:20 +0000 UTCYou seem to be confused as to what was happening with Canute. He basically was falling deeper and deeper into the 'crown's curse' and became more dark. Poisoning his brother, wanting to seize all the farms by force, etc. All this because he was lazer-focused on creating the 'paradise on earth' which defied god's logic, since earth has been a hellhole for so long under 'god's rule'. There was basically a huge burden on him as he kept getting more powerful, even though he was playing it cool and lying to himself, he didn't like doing the things he had to do and he believed he couldn't share his thoughts with anyone who could understand him (except wulf somewhat). The reason why Canute started laughing, was because in the back of his mind, he was trying to catch what thorfinn was trying to pull, He's been playing a 'game of thrones' type game for so long (he was even afraid of getting poisoned himself, since he poisoned people) that he believed that most people have an ulterior motive when speaking with him. Thorfinn saying "I'll just run" basically made him realize "this dude really just came here to politely ask me not to seize the farm". So he started laughing hysterically. Idk why you said thorfinn made canute look stupid, what thorfinn said was pretty outrageous for their perspective. He came, got himself beat up to speak to the king, asked him to "please don't seize the farm', and then when Canute ask "what if i don't?", he says he'll just run away. The reason why Canute left and was looking super relieved was because he finally realized that thorfinn was someone who understood him and he could talk freely with, so that burden he felt, believing he was all alone and had to fight to achieve his goals by himself, was gone. He trusted thorfinn to create his own paradise so they're basically working towards the same goal but with different methods. Thorfinn wants to make that "peaceful place with no wars" too. In a way he didn't only have to rely in that floating head talking to him anymore.
