He's trying to say that there are all sorts of people there which is pretty much the same in Marley. Gabi then replies " what do you mean all sorts of people? they are devils right?"

2023-10-17 19:02:03 +0000 UTCI don't know if you guys got the idea of Eldians, cause I never heard you guys talked about it. Eldian is a race who can turn into a Titan. All the people lived in Paradis island are Eldians. (FYI Season1-3 all happend in Paradis island) Outside of the island, other Eldians (Reiner/Gabi/Eren's dad) lived in Internment zone in Marley. Marley is the most powerful country cause they controlled 6 of the 9 Titans. The other 3 Titans are Eren's Attack Titan, Founding Titan (which was eaten by Grisha) and the War Hammer Titan (which owned by the Tybur family).

First of all The Devils Island aka Paradis is the island where our crew is at inside the walls. They are Eldians ( meaning they are the only race that can turn into titans, either a regular titan or one of the nine), Marleyans CANNOT turn into titans and they are using the Eldians who are left living in Libero and abusing their powers by opressing them etc. for years. The Eldians living in Libero like Reiner, Zeeke, Gabi etc have no choice but to obey Marleyans because they are used to the abuse and opress and they are like kinda " brainwashed". These events from the beginning of EP1 S4 is 4 YEARS after their defeat in S3. As it has been said there are 9 titans and ALL have been mentioned: Founding Titan, Attack Titan, Female Titan (Annie), Armored Titan, Colossal Titan, Beast Titan, Jaw Titan, Carter Titan ( the dog one lol), and the one mentioned in this eps War Hammar Titan. That scene where Reiner is talking sitting at the dinner table; he IS talking about OUR people, and he is like mentioning silly stuff like Sasha eating a potato and so on. He is talking about them fondly by showing how normal they are and they are nothing close of being a Devil. Colt ( Falcos brother) is next in line of inheriting the Beast Titan after Zeke. Falco, Gabi, Udo and Zofia are training and one of them will be chosen as the one next in line for Armored Titan. Thats it basically so far.

2023-10-17 17:12:11 +0000 UTCThis was explained previously, but the history is during a previous war, a King brought part of the Eldian race to Paradis Island and locked them within the walls. The Eldians who were left in Marley were then kept in concentration camps like we see here with Reiner and Falco and everyone (and previously with Grisha Jaeger and sister). The Marleyans then told the Eldians in concentration camps that they are being treated that way because of their history of turning into titans and killing people, and they call the people on Paradis Island (Eren and our peeps) "devils" because they were left behind to suffer when the Island group left. Idk if this is making any sense lol but i hope this helps! 😅 Also, the "enemies" Reiner infiltrated is in fact our main team. The potato story was Sasha from all the way in Season 1 😂

Reiner was always talking about infiltrating Paradis. The person with the potato was Sasha. His mother became uncomfortable because he was referring to them complex humans and not devils.

But officially, he makes it clear inheriting one of 9 titans are the glory for sinner Eldians, but eventually Reiner said save Gabi from this dark future. it's like, if you cares Gabi, you take the tragedy instead.

2023-10-17 14:59:34 +0000 UTCi think the ep kinda opens up to the complexity of the Eldians residing in Marley: some are brainwashed and completely hate the Eldians on Paradis (Gabi and her fam), some are conflicted (Reiner, maybe Falco?), etc. And i feel like the complexity is the beauty of AOT. Also just a note to to highlight from this ep: in the past 4 years, Marley has been sending scouting ships to Paradis but none returned.

The people on the island are referred to as the devils. The people on the island are also Eldians like the Gabi, Falco, and the rest of the oppressed people in the internment zones of Marley. - You guys didn't react much to the part about Ymir. It did go by kind of fast though. Galliard (his first name is Porco) inherited her titan (RIP Ymir). Remember though Ymir ate Marcel (the boy who was originally on the mission to get the founding titan with Annie, Bertholdt, and Reiner) when she was a pure titan. Marcel originally had Ymir's titan before she ate him. Porco is Marcel’s brother. I didn't catch the fact they said they were brothers until now lol I guess I missed that part when I first watched it. - The flashback Reiner had when he was looking at Gabby and the others was of Annie, Bertholdt, Marcel, Porco (Gilliard), and him as a kid. Reiner is a very interesting character this season....

Remember that AOT is a journey and it's completely normal to feel that pieces of the story don't fully make sense in your head during your first watch. It all comes together as the story develops (and particularly after successive rewatches). The last three episodes of season 3 and beginning of season 4 contain a lot of lore and new characters to keep track of in your head, but it seems like in your post reaction thoughts you were able reconcile mostly everything (or enough to continue). As you two said, the story is also being told from multiple perspectives so you're also piecing together information from different characters that have their own personal biases and assumptions about how the world works (including who is good and bad).

Yall got pretty much everything by the end of the discussion. That’s why I enjoy your reactions. 👍🏿 Absolutely right, Season 4 has made things a lot more complicated. These characters we saw as “villains” are humans with families, goals, & fears of their own. They exist under an oppressive military dictatorship that teaches them their race is of the devil & that everyone on the Island of Paradise deserves to die. But as we see, Reiner knows that isn’t true.
