The poll will run for two weeks, and the the first episode of the poll winner will be going up for early access on the same day as HXH 148 in March.
If either Frieren or Steins;Gate end up winning, I will eventually work towards making those releases twice a week, given the length.
Excited to see how this turns out.

About the choices, I recently had the opportunity to experience steins;gate. I definitely had some fun with it, but at times it can seem a bit predictable and not as engaging. I don't quite completely comprehend as what might qualify as a spoiler, so I'll refrain from going into any specifics here. Haven't watched Frieren, but it'll definitely bring a lot of viewers to the channel. I'm not against steins;gate though, I think it can still be a good series for the channel. Love to hear your thoughts on anything, really :)

2025-02-26 19:51:44 +0000 UTCI think the main issue with Steins;Gate anime is that it tries to fit EVERYTHING from the visual novel. In the VN the story changes based on your choices, so you would expect the anime to only follow one path, but it instead tries to do multiple things at once and it ends up feeling like some choices were weird/forced. Anyway I loved both the VN and the anime and I think Im will too.

I saw some comments talking about how lack of knowledge about otaku culture might make it more challenging, but I am very familiar with otaku culture and played my fair share of VNs back in the day. Honestly, I probably would have really enjoyed it if I had played the VN 10-15 years ago, but it just doesn't hold up for me now.

2025-02-25 11:50:11 +0000 UTCYeah it definitely depends on your familiarity and tolerance to otaku culture of the 00's. People who aren't familiar to it at all or on the contrary were familiar too well and grew out of it may despise it to the point they can't enjoy something like S;G at all. But if you're tolerant enough I think you most likely enjoy it or at least it won't bother you to the point that it outweighs all the positives. I think Im will enjoy it, there are enough merits to it even besides the story and characters. Directing, visuals and atmosphere that took a lot from Serial Experiments Lain for example. And just meta knowledge that it’s originally VN with like 40-50 hours of content makes me personally appreciate it a lot more how well it’s been adapted in a relatively short coherently constructed story. It’s not my absolute favourite but a solid 9/10 nonetheless.

Steins;Gate I genuinely stand by and believe that all of them are deserving S rank "special" for a reason. Why? Because they created moments that left an undeniable mark in my history of watching anime. Now S;G as of lately has come under attack by anime revitionists who love to put anything under microscope with progressive standards of 2025 for a visual novel that was released on 2009...moe, neet, and otaku culture where PART of the anime industry. I don't think there's any mistake Im enjoyed both HxH and Monster to the Nth degree. Steins;Gate is one for the books! arguably the weakest in terms of writing but top-notch story nonetheless. Phenomenal soundtracks from op/ed to sound design and original music. Unique animation and camera angles that have a very distinct look and feel unique to the series. Compact nit tight story telling with secrets, mystery, and drama to unfold on top of all the time travel shenanigans. There's no mistake. Steins;Gate WILL win and it's gonna be a ride.

A bit overhyped but still a masterpiece. When I read comments like this I take is as you weren't able to emotionally connect with the characters. Or you didn't care enough for the events of the story and the way it unfolded.

All of 2024 was only HXH vids on the channel, I want to get back to other stuff, and unfinished business. The situation with EVA and a few others was simply a time issue, unfortunately, It wasn’t out of choice. Here, it’s a choice I am making to take a break from it for a while, and now devote time to other stuff I’m interested in, there is so much to get to.

Given how Im felt about Death Note (and I agree with that take), I feel SG will end up on that same level. All that to say I'm voting for Frieren! There's not that much to speculate and theorize about, but boy is it fantastic. Especially the first half.

2025-02-23 13:54:03 +0000 UTCJeremy: That's a tough question. I have no idea how to explain the problem to non-Japanese speakers. It's the language and the characters themselves. The cringe level is through the roof. Almost physically painful to listen to them speak. I plowed through 2 episodes and gave up. People say that once you get through the first 5 episodes, you're good. I just couldn't force myself. At the very least Japanese speakers understand my problem, and it's a pretty common one. The real problem is explaining that to people who only read subtitles, cuz translation takes away 90% of the cringe. Apart from certain someone having a textbook case of "8th grader syndrome", but again, it's received a bit differently overseas.

SG could be watched another time, I really think we watch Frieren before S2 comes out. I'm also really biased lol, ever since finishing S1 I knew I was the most excited to watch him react to it. Specially for the kind of reactor he is, I really think Frieren would give a lot to chew on while still being lighthearted. It's right up his ally. Hoping it wins! OR MAYBE he blesses us and does both?? They're both short.. consider it Im!!

Frieren is really good and all but, ultimately, there isnt much to react to as of now. The more interesting themes of the Manga havent even been adapted yet. At the end of the day, people are here for the reactions and analysis of the shows. Steins;Gate is objectively the better choice in that regard.

That said, gotta go for Steins;Gate this time round, it's core anime heritage at this point, plus has the advantage of actually being finished, so we can get a full start-to-end watch, full package reaction. Loved Tengoku Daimakyou too, and Frieren season 1 has honestly been one of the most immersive and fulfilling shows I've seen in a long while when it came out, so, hope that these both get a watch soon enough!!!
