Oh my, I'm sure you would wonder what the heck this image is. It is an image of an Excel file of the translation of my manga, "Kemo-Kemo Gakuen (The Kemono Kemono School)".
For this translation, I've been working with a translation team. They're the professionals not volunteers. For a long time, I was looking for the best way to get my manga translated meeting various people. Then, I found out the best way is to ask for the professionals.
The reason is because the translation requires "the localization". Translation is not a simple process. Firstly, the original text gets translated. This is just a draft. Then, it must get localized to make sense for readers. This "localization" is the pivotal key.
If the quality of draft and localization is not good enough, I must ask the translators to re-do the work from the beginning. I'll have to be a little bit picky and bitchy because manga is my professional career and simply my business. If I have to ask many things, it must be extremely stressful for kindhearted volunteers. Therefor, I decided to ask professionals.
In this "The Kemono Kemono School" translation, the team translated roughly the manga first. Then, they suggested the localized translation. Checking both rough draft and the localization, I pointed out some mistakes and the points that are different from my original idea in the manga. After this, considering my suggestions, the team had finalized the translation. That is the current situation and that is the image of the Excel file.
From now on, I'm going to start layout the text and draw some onomatopoeia.

As I've been telling everyone, I'm going to start releasing English version of my manga from 2018. This IS what is going on behind the process.

Awwww, thank you very much for liking my manga. Well, machine translation can be used for rough draft and I often use it so actually. However, in terms of accuracy and reliability especially between English and Japanese, I think it's around 20-30% it is because English and Japanese belong to different language families. Also, meaning of text changes depending on situaiton. For instance, there's an expression in Japanese, おつかれさま(Otsukaresama). This short expression is used in various occasions and works differently. It can be a greeting such as “hello” and “good-bye”. It can be an expression of gratitude, “thank you”. OR something like, “Wow, indeed, you worked so hard! You must be so tired now. Take a good rest!” (LOL). However, for instance, Google auto translation shows only one translation at this moment as “thank you”. This is the irritating part of auto translation actually. I hope the quality of auto translation will get much better in the future!!!
