Since BOTH the Jedi & the Sith think Trakata - the tactic Vaderkin used in his spar here, of switching one's lightsaber on and off at certain times - is Very Bad Form, it was definitely the move to make to drive Depa to blind rage...especially since Vaderkin was masterful in his application of the technique. Plus, no one died...unlike all the Jedi who got murked when it was used by Manny Jacinto's Sith character in "The Acolyte".

2025-10-01 23:58:31 +0000 UTCPeople always make a joke about why the Jedi don't turn of there lightsabers in combat. One of the main reasons it makes sense fighting wise is that real attacks aren't aiming for the weapon, but the person. Therefore if you turned of your lightsaber, the attack would continue to hit you. Big dramatic binds were combatants stare into each other's eyes are all well and good in stories, but not so much in practical fights. Another thing, using the lightsaber to deflect an attack and then turning it off also doesn't make much sense, because all good combat techniques train you to flow with the deflection and turn it into another attack. Also, Jedi and force sensitive people aren't likely to overextend where a trick like that would leave them open to be hit. TLDR. It's a trick, and as such can get you killed as much as it kills the opponent.
