WILTY - Bob Mortimer is a Spider Charmer?

Hi Mike and Jess, many thanks for your detailed reply. My initial thought was a wild card once a month on Thursdays, which is not a poll day, and a day when you make the choice anyway from game shows and chat shows. The only difference would be having the option picking some music or comedy etc. as an alternative on that one day a month to explore something that had piqued your curiosity from previous reactions. I got a bit excited by my idea (it happens at my age) and somewhat over elaborated to suggest maybe having a music or comedy wild card on their individual set days once a month. My intention, as you say, was not to change the polling system, which is the fairest system available. Loving the channel.

2025-03-21 04:11:25 +0000 UTCThere's a boxing match, Ricky Gervais v Bob Mortimer somewhere online, i think it's 3 rounds in a boxing club where they both go for it, used to be on YT. no spoilers.

2025-03-21 02:50:31 +0000 UTCHey Thomas, thanks for the suggestion! We totally get where you’re coming from, and we appreciate the thought behind it. The thing is, whether we’re choosing something ourselves or going off the polls, we’re still pulling from the same source—viewer interest. The wildcard idea sounds nice in theory, but in practice, if we pick something that isn’t something people have been actively asking for, it could lead to more frustration. We already get plenty of comments from people upset that their choice isn’t making it into the polls, and taking up a slot for something we handpick would just add to that. Since we started using the poll system, we’ve been introduced to so many things we never would have picked ourselves, and that’s been one of the best parts about it. The polls have pushed us outside of our usual comfort zones, and we love that. Before polls, we were choosing based on random suggestions and recent comments, which often led to frustration. The polling system, while not perfect, has taken a lot of stress off us and made things much more balanced and fair. That said, it really seems like this suggestion isn’t about changing the poll system—it’s about wanting us to follow up better on things we’ve shown interest in during reactions. We understand that when a lot of people show interest in something we bring up in a reaction, there’s no guarantee it will make it onto a poll. That’s fair, and we do want to be better at catching things people are excited about. Right now, when we post a poll, people can comment on it, and we always check those comments to make sure we got the right version of a video or to see if something is gaining a lot of traction. If we see a lot of buzz around something, we can always throw it on an upcoming poll. At the end of the day, we think better communication will solve this issue. If people really want to see something, letting us know in those poll comments is a great way to make sure it stays on our radar. We’ll always do our best to keep track of what people are excited about, and we appreciate ideas like this that help refine the process. Thanks again for the suggestion, and we’re grateful to have you in the community!

2025-03-21 00:03:28 +0000 UTCThis did come up before, I raised it in the first live in fact. I'm all for it, I also thought about the opposite and that is, one of the Patrons is picked at random and gets to nominate a video. So yeah, I think it's fun to consider what Mike and Jess or Mike, Jess and Matt might want to do - but they said they want us to drive that. So taking it from another point of view. We now have multiple playlists which one is close to a thousand videos. So we're close to the issue of, someone watches something, thinks it's relevant to add a video and good luck, it may make it in 5 years. I personally think there's some fun in Mike and or Jess looking through the random 5 selected and calling out a wildcard each month and saying - this is what takes this place. But also possibly handing that to a Patron. But, we also probably need to consider refreshing the playlists. As they'll just get too large and people get to add whatever and however many they want. We get to the stage where the average Patron can't get anything in the votes because there's just too many.

2025-03-20 23:06:58 +0000 UTCI wasn’t suggesting an extra video, just replacing a poll choice once a month with one of their own. So, still the seven reactions a week, but once a month one of those reactions would be their choice based on stuff they may have picked up on from the general content. No extra work really required.

2025-03-20 21:48:46 +0000 UTCYour phrasing indicates you're talking to us, like it's something we can discuss or have a say in, whenever what they do isn't up to us. I'm of the opinion that I'm sure they think of all sorts of ideas and also have a lot on their plate, I'm sure they don't need additional ideas, even if it is only once a month as you suggested. I say keep doing what you're doing M&J and if you decide to drop in an extra video from time to time, by all means.

2025-03-20 20:10:13 +0000 UTCNot directly related, but I was thinking that while the currently polling system works pretty well, we could tweak it slightly and introduce a wild card ONCE A MONTH where Mike and Jess make a choice for a reaction. Quite often they say that they would like to explore an artist or comedian, but the chances of that happening anytime soon seems unlikely. For example, they asked about the theme to The Office. Most patreons are very familiar with the song Handbags And Gladrags because it has been recorded multiple times over five or six decades, and once by a band, The Stereophonics, who they both clearly took to in a recent UKMojo reaction. The once-a-month wildcard would give them a chance to react to that song, if they choose, on music day Saturday. Same with comedy day (maybe Ali G, who has only showed up once in a poll). Maybe we could trial the wild card once a month just on Thursdays to start with and see how it goes. So they would pick a comedian or music on that single Thursday, rather than a chat show or game show, which would feature on the other three Thursdays. If it works, expand it to the other slots.
