Why Europe Is Insanely Well-Designed

Comments

I suppose it’s a lot easier to take that leap when healthcare isn’t tied to employment

I've seen this too many times

RegenerationNationTV

I wouldn't have guessed that.

This is exactly how I imagine it, based on the stories I've been told. It sounds amazing. Sidewalks just disappearing out of nowhere is something I'm so used to. I wish walking and public transport was better here. I think it would improve everyone's lives so much in many different ways.

It's sad really 😢

Wow, I've been to more States than you guys and I'm Welsh (been to 10 different states)

Having spent a lot of time in the US I would miss the accessibility of everything without a car here, the way zoning works in the US everything is so compartmentalised and sprawling so you have to drive for miles to go to a restaurant or go shopping but here you walk to the shops, restaurants and pubs because we have mixed use zoning. And if you want to go into nature you have to drive to another compartmentalised bit of land in a park. Here the countryside is pretty much on your doorstep even if you live in a major city, the sprawl isn’t the same. So in Sheffield I could walk 30 minutes and be in the heart of the city, or I could walk 30 minutes the other way and be in the Peak District, one of the most beautiful part of the countryside in England and the UK, with no sign that there’s a major city nearby. I miss just being able to go for a walk, I walk everywhere here but when I’m in the US it’s so difficult to safely walk a lot of places - the sidewalks just randomly disappear. I miss the buses and trains too, and if I lived there more permanently I’d miss the universal healthcare.

There’s more small to medium business owners per capita in the UK than the US coincidentally

Some bike paths are part of the road or path (sidewalk) or there’s dedicated cycle routes which in the UK are usually where there used to be rail lines (loads were removed in the 1960s)

I nearly got run over in Philadelphia by someone turning right on red

He’s probably including the part of Russia that’s in Europe, but most of Russia is in Asia
