Interestingly, the memory section was almost completely backwards if you go by how it works irl. There's no such thing as repressed memories, only forgotten ones and false ones. And you can tell which memories are fake irl because it is the fake ones that are super detailed and clear. Real memories only ever blur and fade, so every time you recall them, your subconscious mind inserts details it considers logical to fill in the growing blank spots. Eventually this results in memories that are highly detailed, very vivid, and almost wholly counterfeit. Every time you struggle to recall something? What you are actually doing is forcing your mind to invent details you've forgotten. Sometimes you get it right, but usually your recollection is being badly warped by this process. This actually became a major social problem in the late '80s and '90s, because the psychological community was enamored with the idea of "recovering repressed memories", and whole-heartedly embraced the idea that most of your adult ticks and disorders could be traced to repressed trauma in childhood. They would tell their patients that they have these issues because they must have been abused in some way as a child, and spend hours with them forcing them to try to remember. In practice, this resulted in literally thousands of people (mostly women) going into therapy for depression or bipolar disorder, and coming out of it convinced that they were molested by someone close to them as a child. Thousands of people (mostly men) were thrown in prison as child molesters as a direct result, and it all turned out to be because psychologists had accidentally hit on the perfect method for mass-producing fake memories of childhood trauma. Eventually the recovered memory theory was debunked and fell out of favor, but there were zero consequences for any of the therapists involved, despite thousands of lives destroyed and families torn apart, all because they got overenthusiastic and ignored what the scientific evidence had been showing since the 1970s. This is one of the reasons why real scientists have such contempt for the idea that psychology is a valid scientific field, because they keep doing crap like this over and over again, and they never own up to it or take accountability for the lives their stupid, unscientific fads ruin.

2025-04-24 08:17:42 +0000 UTCHmmm...did Sinister just clue in that his creation is getting her brain probed via his own mental connection to Madelyne, or are Emma & Thad witnessing a memory of Sinister discovering just what his genetic tinkering had wrought?
