Well, that was an adventure
Added 2022-03-21 14:26:49 +0000 UTCPost-covid, there are fewer available flights and the routes that I used to take to come to Australia don't exist yet. I imagine, should things continue to open up, they will. I headed to Vancouver from Toronto, and to Sydney from Vancouver. All of that was fine.
But the Sydney leg of the flight was late to land, which means I missed by connecting flight. I hadn't cleared customs by the time the plane departed. I was not the only person in this situation; imagine an extremely crowded customs line with every person in it desperate to catch the same flight >.<.
Qantas immediately rebooked me on the next flight out, which was only two hours later, which helped. Because I don't travel a lot, I didn't take into account that I'd have to clear customs in Sydney, as it would be my port of entry into Australia. Mistakes I will not make again, part 432.
Then, the day I arrived, I... lost part of either a tooth or a filling. In Australia. Where my dentist is not. So: Sunday I went to the dentist, because there was a dentist open on Sunday (there's a surcharge for Sunday visits but... I did not want to wait until Monday. If they'd had an appointment when I called first thing in the morning, I'd have gone then).
I almost took pictures of the dental office to post to Twitter as a: how my trip is going so far, but decided no one needs to see more pictures of dental offices they themselves have managed to avoid.
I actually loved the dentist. I have pictures of the dental work - literal pictures she took at various stages of dental work - to give to my dentist upon my return, so he can add the information to my dental files, and as she had half dozen photos, she walked through everything she'd done, and the reasons for it. Honestly, if she were in Toronto, I would do everything in my power to keep her >.< (my dentist of fifty-two years is heading for retirement Very Soon). But... I don't think i could sell coming to Australia every six months for dental check-ups and possible follow up work to my long-suffering spouse.
I did not, however, get work done on either of the two days, and am now - as always - behind. And Jet lagged, but I tend to just go with the flow of poor sleep, which is why I'm up now.
Hopefully in the next couple of days I can resume regular posting of Hunter's Redoubt, but now, I will head on to writing.

I find it hard to have a conversation on Patreon, and have created a WordPress Patreon only blog to make it easier for me to find new comments and respond to them, sometimes at length.
This post is https://michellewest.ca/2022/03/21/well-that-was-an-adventure/; you should be able to hit Login with Patreon, and should be able to read posts there at the same levels you can read them here.
I'll answer comments here as well if this is your preferred format, but probably not as expansively (which might be a good thing!).
