Yo nice job once again. Fun fact most of Lupe's albums are connected in a Universe he created. The power of the Long Chains is the same power that brought Micheal Cool Young History back to life. It's the same power that changed Alan and Jonylah fates. Once you start to get into this realm of thinking it's fun trying to connect the dots that could be there or not. Here's a video where Lupe explains his concepts of it with The Cool and how it connects to his other works. Enjoy. https://youtu.be/Gl09Y4VSqJ8

It’s called King Nas because it’s dedicated to his two nephews who’s names are King and Nas

Banging vid. 👌

The songs Alan forever and jonylah forever are songs where the characters save themselves thus being stuck in a time loop or paradox

It was this album that made me accept Lu as the GOAT. My heart wanted to keep Pac there, but my brain wouldnt allow it. I swear Ive seen Jon on either or both of wrestling themed videos and videogames. I am surprised he didnt comment or comment more on the Sega Genesis/Master System bar and the Hart Foundation bar.

Ooooo, and Next To It! Another not-super-heavy Lupe song lol but the rhyme scheme is really interesting.....and Go Go Gadget Flow and Run Game too!

There’s a super fun song I love by Lupe called Jump - it’s about being abducted by aliens and it’s hilarious. I think it would be a great lighthearted song to check out!

Also one of my favorite braggadocious lines of all time "Fit the life of a whole booth in half a line"... Lupe so great of a lyricist that he'll take what another rapper does in his entire career in the rap booth, and give that same impact in half a damn line. My personal GOAT, he's just at an insane level, and this run he's had the past few years has been absolutely nuts.

Man this made my entire day, truthfully. This is my favorite album of all time and getting to watch someone else react to listening to it for the first time ever is an awesome experience. Similar to what you said, I put this on a tier with TPAB. TPAB is a little more focused on a singular more obvious thread throughout the album, but WAVE has that too. The theory that has hit with me the most is that the whole album encapsulates the importance of rebirth/reincarnation/2nd chances. Whether it does that through the mythology of the Longchains, or the stories of Alan/Jonylah, or depicting people falling into a world of drugs that ruins them but ensuring that they can get out of it/the kids can get out of it and aren't ruined by it, all follow a thread.

The 1st time i heard wav files.... man.. must have played it 10 times. One of my all time fav songs. Lupe creativity and imagination is unmatched

I agree. I think its the best album out of the lasers, food and liquor 2, drogas light. Some of his best songs are on there imo

Jeremy Hebert

I just watched thanks Jon not many react channels tackle Lupe and as a Lupe being my Goat we as Lupe fans just want ppl to try and you appreciate his skill as a rapper and musician, food and liquor 2 needs to be next lupe album, not a classic as the 1st one but still great, still has Atlantic Records stench on some songs unfortunately lol

Timothy Payton

Thanks Jon!! Sit with this album and youbwill uncover how meaning meaning and thought went into it.

Somethings I wanted to point out. Drogas (Don't Ruin us God Said), a phase mentioned in the album a lot. Drogas is also drugs in Spanish.

Christopher Jones

Thank You Jon for even tackling this behemoth of an album. So complex it takes so many listens to get everything.

Christopher Jones

This is why I'm subscribed here. You understand and know genius level work when you hear it. You truly care about the culture of hip-hop and are passionate about the art. Not many people on these platforms connect with the music like you do. Appreciate you fam.

Im happy you enjoyed this album. You can finally sit on the couch with all of us other Lupe fans as we wait for him to release Skulls haha

King Nas might not be explicitly about Nas but the song is definitely an homage to him. It's got the same drum track as "It Ain't Hard to Tell" by Nas, "ghetto mythologies colonize my mind constantly" is a very Illmatic era Nas-ian type of line, and even the hook where he says "I'm the man now" is kind of a mirror to the song "You're da Man" also by Nas. It's an amazing track, my favorite on the whole album

Track 1-9: Wave. Track 10-22: Drogas. Track 23-24: End Credits. Lupe said he wanted to create an album similar to an Open World video game. He also mentioned wanting to make it non linear in the post modernist view. Loved the reaction

Baghel Singh

This made my day. I absolutely love this man and his mind.
