Superman Reaction

I stand corrected, Edward. I know this happened on a film and I mis-remembered it as being this one. I replied without checking my facts first. My bad. Lesson learned.

Michael Gilbrook

I concur with those suggesting The Godfather (the whole trilogy). Also, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is a fantastic Jim Carrey movie. Very unique and artistic.

Chris

It's a shame you did not watch the original theatrical version. I did not even know this version existed. It's like they put in every scene with no editing. The original theatrical version is much better. I like the original version better than most super hero movies, even with the old graphics. You got to remember this movie was made for kids who read the comic books - it was the first superhero movie. It is also true to the superman story whereas the new superman movies are not. Modern day hero movies are made for adults which is actually weird cause comic books are made for kids.

K

when you asked if the people in Kent's office were really busy? No, they weren't, the were some bad actors trying to act busy. lol When you mentioned it i looked around and at what they were doing. When you get time go back and look. Its pretty funny.

bernard henderson

that had to have hurt! Crash landing on a planet in a capsule full of sharp crystals. lol I haven't seen this since I was a kid. Thanks. Have fun.

bernard henderson

I love Chi and Hella and I don't blame them for how they reacted to this version of the film. Here are some thoughts on the ending of the film: The turning back time element has to be accepted without being logical because even though he reversed time, some of the elements happened anyway. He could have gone back further and stopped the missile from impacting, but it still did and and much if not almost all of damage still occurred -- evidenced by everyone talking about the effects of the missile's impact. But the crack didn't swallow the car Lois was driving. Why not? When I was a kid I thought he flew so fast, the Earth starting revolving backward, but obviously that would destroy the planet's surface and probably cause it to break apart considering that it's very liquid beneath the surface. Since the Earth is spinning at about 1000 miles per hour at the equator, stopping the spin would be like hitting the breaks on a speeding car -- everyone would fly forward and (since the Earth's surface is curved) up into the air at a slight angle. If it was perfect, he would have stopped the missile entirely. Also somewhat acceptable would be for him just to fly back enough to rescue Lois before her car got swallowed, but the crack should still have appeared. I don't want them to react to Superman II since they watched the wrong version of Superman: The Movie. If they do, please God don't watch the Donner Cut since it's an incomplete film with unfinished scenes. I appreciate what Richard Donner wanted to do, but it would just Superconfuse Chi and Hella at this point.

Edward Olson

A very long and slow version of this movie. But I loved your reactions! Especially loved when Lois and Superman were flirting and Chi was cringing while Hella was giggling at the dumbest jokes, like when Superman looked at her underear color and they almost crashed with the bird. It is a very silly movie, but it has a lot of good in it. Gene Hackman as Lex Luthor is so much fun, including his stupid sidekicks Otis and Miss Teschmacher. Also, that final trick with "turning back time" made me react exactly the same way Hella did when I first watched the movie. It was a very strange way to "solve" the problems with the ending.

phoenix241

They are better, I think they will enjoy X3 the ladies don’t have the same hang ups we do. That’s what enjoy when I watch their reactions

Angrytoybox

I agree. X-men and X2 are pretty good, and I think they should watch X-men 3 as well, even though it is not as good, but it kinda ends that era of movies. I still think those X-men-movies are better than most of the newer ones with Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique.

phoenix241

I thought I had seen every cut of this movie. This one should not have been the one to have Chi and Hella watch. It plays like a rough cut, with scenes that are too long and a lot of unnecessary bloat. I really wish you had shown them the theatrical version. First rule of reactions: watch the theatrical version.

Edward Olson

Michael, you don't know what you're talking about. Richard Donner didn't die! He was filming both Superman and Superman II simultaneously. As the release date for Superman was fast approaching, they changed the filming schedule to make sure all the shots for the first film were completed in time to do post-production. Once all the Superman 1 footage was finished, the producer fired him and replaced him with Richard Lester. Superman II was almost entirely directed by Richard Donner as well, including all the Metropolis scenes for BOTH MOVIES. The producers requested a re-write and new footage was shot and some that was planned to be shot by Donner was never filmed. Richard Lester got credit as director even though he shot very little of it. Richard Donner directed filims for decades afterward, and released his own version of Superman 2 in 2006 called Superman 2: The Donner Cut. He died THREE YEARS AGO.

Great reaction Munchies.........

Ervin Cortez

if you want a superhero comedy you should watch the 1966 Batman movie.

Alec Dacyczyn

Fun Fact: Star Wars came out the year before this movie

Proto Type

Correct. The theatrical version was much shorter and paced much better. The extra footage in this version didn't add anything useful. There's usually a good reason why scenes are cut from the final version shown in theaters.

Michael Gilbrook

Lethal Weapon definitely. Then Loaded Weapon lol

Manospondylus

This version should be called "Superman: The Walking, Flying and Romance cut" Yes this version is way to long the amount of time they hold on to a shot for is insane.

Imperial Mort

Definitely unfortunate that you didn't watch the theatrical version, this cut is waaaaaay too bloated with unnecessary long and repetitive shots. Still a classic though.

phillip giroux

I hope you ladies do Superman 2. It's much better I feel. This one is good but it's got a lot of long boring segments. Even more so with this extended version. Fun reaction either way though.

Looney

You need to watch Superman II. It’s very romantic. And it’s not as slow because this one was the extended director’s cut. Superman II is also about Zod and the other 2 Kryptonians from the beginning that get banished to the phantom zone.

Jef Etters

I hope you watch the second movie. Its better than the first one

Ned

Lethal Weapon might be something the ladies will enjoy.

Angrytoybox

This was the really extended version. It makes it drag a bit. The theatrical cut is better. I’d give the old x men movies a chance X2 is quite good

Angrytoybox

That’s a fun fact I never knew thanks for sharing!

fan

Both are obviously masterpieces, but I think I've come to like Part two even more. The scenes with De Niro in NYC/Italy are some of the most organic filmmaking I've ever witnessed. And the constant juxtaposition between past and present makes that even more devastating than the first imo.

Henry N.

They mention in the intro that “Batman 89 is on patreon” I’m assuming that messaging is for the YouTube audience so when Superman is uploaded to YouTube Batman should be posted for us.

fan

Just starting watching and double checked their reaction run time when I read your comment. 3 hours…lol. Definitely some extended ultra edition version like you said. I have seen it before I swear it was 90-120 minutes

fan

Now that you have seen Marlon Brando, you should watch “The Godfather” it’s one of the few movies universally acclaimed for greatness and shows Marlon Brando in his best role. It’s a serious tone movie/drama.

fan

I really enjoyed this movie so much as a young kid, but watching it now as an adult, it definitely seems like it was made for children. Margot Kidder, who plays Louis Lane, is always great. Her character in the movie BLACK CHRISTMAS is just the best. Since you ladies are doing DC Movies, do you have plans to watch the 2017 WONDER WOMAN movie? I think you both would enjoy that one. Richard Donner has also made some real bangers: The Omen, The Goonies, and Lethal Weapon.

Steven Roy

I must say, this version of Superman will always be the SUPERIOR version for me. The pacing is slow to some, but thats because in the 70s, these directors were perfectionist......minus the time travel of course.😣

Mark W

The reason it feels like two different movies is because... It is! The man who directed the first half died and was replaced by a new director who filmed the Superman in Metropolis second half.

Michael Gilbrook

I'm guessing this is a Director's cut or something. Pacing is extremely slow. Nearly 90 minutes before the first rescue where the audience finally sees Superman in action.

Jason Brugger

Yeah me too! Honestly I’d like to see them react to the 66 Batman movie also. So few reactors do it and it so fun! Feel like it’s nice to see the full evolution of these characters

Dylan Hamilton

Zod comes back in Superman 2. You should watch Marlon Brando in "The Godfather". One of the best films ever made - and it's sequel.

Gregory A Mann

Oh nahhhhhhh this movie stinks lol

Paul De'Armond

I hope someday they react to Batman and Batman Returns. They are still my favorite superhero movies.

Looney

I was thirteen years old, and on holiday with my parents in a holiday village near Bude, Cornwall, England, and this film was on at the local cinema. I talked my parents into letting me walk down the country roads to Bude to watch it by myself (it was the first time I'd ever gone to the cinema alone). I (almost literally) flew back after the movie ... the special effects were so good (for the time) that I believed a man could fly. My imagination was in overdrive. (I learnt later that my father had walked into Bude behind me, to make sure I was alright - but I had no idea at the time.}

Stephen Paynter

If someone asks me what Superman is about, I can now easily describe the movie in three words: walking, flying and dating. I love the look on Hellas' face when Chi tells her that Superman turns back time. I really forgot how silly this movie is.😂 It's a classic, but also a product of its time. It almost feels like two movies, the first half more "serious" and the second half more of a comedy. Christopher Reeve is definitely THE SUPERMAN, closely followed by Henry Cavill.😉 Unpopular opinion, I prefer Man of Steel. It may not be the most faithful Superman, but if I want to have a nice movie night I would go for Man of Steel. That was once again an absolutely awesome reaction ladies, you are the best.💜 Oh, by the way, Deadpool & Wolverine is out now. I hope you can react to it soon, Deadpool 1 & 2 are among your best reactions.

Digitalversager

Zod is in the sequel Superman 2

King Bob

LOL seemed almost like the intro was going to be the whole movie

Thalanoth

While it was before my time, it was still my first Superhero movie! This and Batman 89 are the first movies to take the characters fairly seriously.

Dylan Hamilton

I love this reaction to Batman 1978

Imperial Mort

WOW! This was a Surprise, and a really good one. This was the Superman I grew up with, and still remains the most true to the comic book version. The next movie is also fantastic and will seem oddly familiar after seeing the more recent reboot of the Superman franchise.

PapaXan

didn't they watch this before? or am I imagining it

King Bob

Oh wow. Going back to the 1970’s for this one. Did you want to compare it to Man of Steel? It was a bit campy, but was a massive hit when it was released.
