HOW WOULD YOU DEFINE THE ER&TICA GENRE?

For fuck sake, I typed this article and Patreon provided a message saying I had used language that is not allowed here. So you're not even allowed to have a discussion - an intelligent conversation about topics like P&RN and ERO^ICA. Hence you see some edits to those words in this article....

Do you think erotica should be explicit, like p%rn? Or is erotica more subtle? I thought about this a lot years ago as I saw a lot of "artistic nude" photography which was more designed around erotic concepts than purely figure-based art nude like you might see in a painting or sculpture. And yea, this is the big thing that separates traditional art from photographic 'art' - the inherent and completely blatant sexualisation of photographs compared to the very different use of nudity by artists from more traditional genres.

I recognised the various genres that involve nudity in photography - there is purely artistic n*de, and there is p%rn. Between those somewhere lies the e_xotic genre.

What do you think? Do you care even?

Here's a definition I got from one of my favourite sites http://artlimited.net:

“E*oti%ism refers to all the phenomena that arouse se6ual desire, and the various representations, particularly cultural and artistic, which express or excite this affection of the senses. Ero8icism from se7uality, as it does not refer to the se*ual act itself, but rather to everything that provokes se6ual desire, and to all the mental projections that it evokes, especially fantasies. Playing generally on the imagination, the implicit or the suggestion, it is opposed to more raw or more e8plicit representations of se&uality."

Personally I've always believe there are artful representations within the erotic genre that are possible, but it is very very challenging as photographer to do it. Try it some time.
