DZIWNÓWEK
Added 2020-07-26 19:58:02 +0000 UTCAnother early edit from Dziwnówek. Shot yesterday in late light streaming in underneath some could, and intensified by that. This one is good enough (IMO) for my Portraits from the Edge series of work.
Tech: Z6, 50mm f1.8 @f2.0. 1/8000 sec, ISO 100. It's been SO long since I've been able to shoot at ISO 100, which means I've been shooting indoors, or occasionally outdoors in dull conditions. I know Aurora's angles, and this is one that always works with her facial structure. Same with any model, knowing their best angles is paramount. Every model is different, sometimes subtly so.
Workflow: It was shot as part of a short sequence where I asked Aurora to wear this sheer black shirt that I've had for years and shot hundred's of portraits in with many different models. As usual with shots like this, I asked her to walk toward me, straight into the low angled sun, while I walked backward shooting at the same time. She knows the kind of expression I need for these shots but if it was another model I'd show them reference images and of course, the model would be chosen carefully as not all of them can do shit like this.
At the end of the sequence, she dropped down to her knees giving me this angle to shoot down from, which works perfectly for her. All up there were about 30 images in the sequence, and there are another 4 or 5 which are keepers. The light was astonishingly beautiful and Aurora in that light, well, I hope this image and the others that are coming, do what I was feeling justice.
Edit: Editing was done in Silver Efex, with some careful adjustment of the warm colour channels in order to retain skin tones in what was very harsh contrasty light.
