Galatea - Chapter 11

CHAPTER 11: NON-SYNERGISTIC

“Vanessa! Vanessa! Where the hell are you!?” Audrey shouted, her cadence frightening anyone within its stupendous range.

Storming into the dorms, Audrey tore a path of destruction wherever she walked. Her furious footsteps fractured the floor to a marching tempo as she ascended to the tenth landing where her and Vanessa’s shared room was located.

She didn’t feel like using her key, a simple shove proving to be a useful alternative. Rendered broken beyond usability, the door gave way to what appeared to be an empty dorm room. Audrey looked around in all the typical spots—her bed, the bathroom, the couch, but Vanessa didn’t seem to be anywhere. The beautiful blonde was ready to call it quits and check elsewhere when…

“Oh, hello there, Audrey, almost missed you on that same, boring old ground.”

Startled, Audrey’s head darted to the source of the voice—the ceiling. Vanessa was laying atop it as if gravity had been inverted for her, though the act didn’t seem to be all that out of the ordinary for her. If anything, she looked rather smug, hands behind her head and legs crossed as if she were looking for a tan on the beach.

“V-Vanessa!? What are you doing up there?” Audrey asked, more than a little shaken at the sight of her roommate in a place only Spider-Man should have access to.

“Oh, you know, just chillin’.” Vanessa’s reply was as nonchalant as ever. To Audrey, this was a sight thought to be left within fiction. To Vanessa, this was Tuesday.

“Get down from there, Vanessa! We need to talk!”

“We’re already talking. I don’t see any reason for me to move from my spot. After all, I just got comfortable.”

Audrey’s lip was trembling. As if it wasn’t bad enough that Vanessa took this upgraded virus behind her best friend’s back, she seemed to be reveling in its effects. Not only was she quickly catching up to Audrey’s level of beauty, she was now suddenly able to float on the ceiling!?

Awaiting a response, Vanessa began to casually play with her ever-improving body. Slender fingers traced up impossibly long legs, the firmness of her ass providing resistance as she trekked up and around them. “Mmm, you wouldn’t believe how perfect my body’s becoming.” She then tugged at the chest window of her dress, a breathtaking view of sumptuous cleavage spilling out for Audrey to become flustered at.

“So you admit it then!” Audrey replied, as if she had caught Vanessa doing something wrong. “You got Giles to inject yourself with the virus, right!?”

“When did I ever deny it, Aud?” Vanessa replied, not phased by any sort of guilt. “And I didn’t just get him to inject me with any old virus, it was one that was sculpted exactly to my liking.”

“You’ve been avoiding me all week, Vanessa! That sounds like denial!”

“Mmm… Maybe we just never crossed paths up to this point. I wouldn’t blame you for missing me, for all those reflexes, you never seem to look up much.”

“What do you mean by that?”

The buxom black-haired girl demonstrated her answer visually this time, slowly descending downward as if inside an invisible elevator. During the slow-motioned drop, Vanessa began to turn counter-clockwise, never taking her eyes off of her roommate as she touched down with precision atop the couch, her position unchanged.

“You can fly!?”

“Among many other wondrous things sure to develop along the way,” Vanessa replied, her smirk unmoving as she scooched her body left and right, more concerned with finding a comfy spot on the couch than the woes of her friend.

“B-but you said you were happy with the role of support. That was all you wanted!”

“For a time, yes. But motivations change, Aud.”

Audrey’s lip furled as yet another use of the nickname “Aud” crossed her roommate’s lips. That was a name developed from a place of friendship, to only be used when the situation was agreed to be casual by both parties involved.

This was anything but casual. Nevermind the revolutionary powers that would be a game-changer for human evolution as society knew it, Vanessa seemed to be completely out-of-touch with her friend’s wants and needs. Audrey’s tone was despairing, eyebrows scrunched upwards in worry.

“I can’t believe you’d do this to me, Vanessa. We were supposed to be friends!”

“We can still be friends, Aud,” Vanessa replied quickly, her almond-shaped eyes flashing a genuine want. “There’s nothing wrong with me becoming a Galatea like Kevin desires. The two of us can both be beautiful, superpowered women without needing our friendship to suffer for it. We both got our confidence boosters, that’s all this is.”

“Ugh, listen to yourself, Vanessa!” Audrey exclaimed. “Galatea? Do you really believe all that pseudoscientific bullshit Giles peddles?”

“That’s none of your concern, frankly.” Now Vanessa’s tone was rising alongside Audrey’s, though the blonde was now in hysterics.

“None of my- christ, is the virus doing this to you? Or have you always been this cold and I just never noticed?”

“I’m not cold, I’m simply… awake. I now see the world beyond what it once was, Aud.”

“Stop. Calling. Me. Aud!” Audrey shouted, now furious at her roommate. “That’s a name only reserved for friends. And, spoiler alert, you just lost your friend privileges!”

“Audrey, wait! Come back!” Vanessa shouted, but her former friend was already out the door, giving it a slam which shattered it to wood chippings for good measure.

“Fuck you.” Audrey’s words were quiet enough so that only Vanessa’s super-hearing could detect it.

The beautiful buxom blonde ran out of the dorm building in tears, her unintentional destruction now motivated by sadness instead of rage. How could Vanessa do that to her? Become so callous like that?

Her devastation of nearby property, while excessive, did lead to one key advantage—it was really easy for Brian to find her. Lord knows she needed him now more than ever.
