[Uncut] Death Note 1x24

Ah maybe I machen those together. I have to check that out. Thanks a lot. 😀

That is not true, they didn't agree on any time frame and after three days Higuchi thought it had been long enough to convince her already. I think what you mean is during a meeting earlier, Light called Namikawa and convinced them to hold off on suspicious killings for a month to let Coil investigate. But Kira was still gonna continue killing criminals so it doesn't work there.

I don’t think he would have killed criminals absent the Death Note. The Death Note allows him to commit murders while completely detached from the situation. He can kill a stranger on the other side of the planet from his bedroom with no effort and nobody to confront him. Effortless, unstoppable, justifiable (in his mind) murder with no repercussions is only made possible by the notebook.

I think you’re right that his quest for mental stimulation is a big part of his drive. But also I don’t think he could have been satisfied with being a cop. The light we see in the yotsuba arc is solving a once in a lifetime case where he IS the prime suspect and that was the stimulation he needed. So i like to think that if the death note never dropped he would be in a « dexter » situation perhaps, where he could murder criminals somehow but also have his day time job as an inspector.

So I believe there would be a possabilty how L could have figured out, the rule is fake. When Misa fooled Higuchi, she asked him not to kill anyone for 2 month. If the 13 day rule is true, he would have never agreed to it, because he would die. Wouldn't he be such an idiot he should also deduce Misa is trying to trick him, cause she should know about that if she "were" the 2nd Kira.

I went back and read these chapters as well and I'll write some interesting things I noticed, but there are more minor details. There is a bit more detail in the Light flashback. He assumes L will probably monitor him and keep him close and it will be difficult to get hold of the Death Note before L, so he he thinks at best he will probably be able to touch it at the same time as L and gambles it all on that. Now one very interesting point is, Light brings up the watch, he actually plans to wear it going into confinement and he argues for it by saying, 'L would never suspect someone asking to be imprisoned would carry self-incriminating evidence' and even if they take it away they would return it to him, so he doesn't consider they would inspect the watch in detail at all, which is just a horrible gamble. In the scene where Light uses the watch, L has internal monologue that reads 'Even if Light is Kira, he wouldn't do something as stupid as using it while I'm sitting right next to him' which is really funny. And Light kinda replies to his monologue with 'He doesn't know about ownership, so he has no idea I'd try to do anything here'. On the next chapter Light thinks it didn't go ideally, it should have taken longer to regain the notebook so he could build more trust with L, but Higuchi was too pathetic. There are a lot more pages here where L questions Rem about various things and deduces a lot about Misa, but the 13 day rule causes him to question himself seems, the rule seems to bug him a lot. He goes through his whole reasoning and it all adds up that Light and Misa are Kira, but then again because of the rule he sidetracks, was Misa being used, was a Shinigami doing everything? Because the book comes from the Shinigami he has no choice but to consider it fact until he could disprove the rule. In general there seems to be a lot more internal monologue in the manga between L and Light, making deductions and other thoughts, that are omitted in the Anime. Light even considers L might use the Death Note to kill him so he doesn't wanna leave it alone with him.

Light got into this whole situation because he was bored. He said as much in episode 1. By the time he lost his memories he was a prime suspect in the world’s largest mass murder case and was later tasked with assisting in the investigation. He was a different person because he was no longer bored. If he never found the notebook, I feel like he’d solve his boredom in a less destructive way. He would have eventually become a cop and that probably would’ve eased his boredom.

You see later that shinigami can be picked up on camera in a scene with Sidoh so it’s a possibility. And I guess to be totally accurate, it’s not explicitly stated to be a reason Light did the trade, but it’s a benefit he gains from it. I just assume Light had thought of it because he’s always thinking about every possibility.

Being able to see Ryuk retroactively on the footage is crazy, I never heard about that.

I love the part where light screams after touching the death note mostly because of the raw and painful note in his voice. As his old “pure” self is being killed again by kira, his entire perception of himself is being remodeled again to fit all his previous actions. His brain must accepts now that the horrible murders he condemned were all his (something that was unthinkable to him prior). I understand now why people say that Kira’s first victim was light. This scene really proves it !! Also you can compare how the same process wasn’t as painful for misa since her core self remained the same whether she had a death note or not. I wonder would light still kill murderers if he had never found the death note ? I admit he has a strong sense of justice but he also lacks any understanding of nuance between good or evil. Not everyone must die after doing a crime (and not all crimes can be judged the same way). Also I believe his psychopathy would have manifested somehow later. Like you can play the « good boy » act and pretend to fit in society but at some point the mask will slip haha anyways love the content !

The 3-way exchange was never really spelled out, but there were multiple reasons for it. Misa taking the other notebook attachs Ryuk to her. Ryuk would be more willing to do the eye deal with her than Rem. Misa gets her eyes back making her a strong ally for Light while also cutting her lifespan in half again. If L goes back to review the footage taken from Light's room he will not see a shinigami. It gives the task force the notebook with the rules so Light can take advantage of the fake rules. Rem becomes the shinigami attached to Higuchi. She is more reliable than Ryuk because she has interest in Misa's safety while Ryuk only wants to be entertained.
