I'm just hoping this comic about not understanding is understandable. Did it worked?
I came up with this comic last time I went out with my friends. The place was pretty loud and I've been experimenting with “sound” in comics a bit lately. So I wondered if there was a way to portray this specific experience.
For the texts I tried to make, it is not impossible to read them but kind of hard, and if you make the effort you'll realize their conversation makes no sense, they keep mishearing each other.
Go ahead if you want. Give it a try before I spoil it here.
…
Now if you don't feel like it here it is:
Diana said “I like Mulligan's better but this place is cleaner tho” talking about another bar they usually go to.
But Davo heard “place is cleaner though” as “date with teacher doe” and he says “Pretty good. I really like her. I'm seeing her again next week” talking about a date he had recently with a teacher he knew.
Tony totally got “pretty good” but missed pretty much everything until “ next week” and he heard “nesquik” and warned Davo “I don't think they have chocolate milk here tho. You could ask”
Then Lil heard something completely unrelated and asked “What did she do?”
As you can see. This is pretty simple and dumb but I did put some effort into it and wanted to share it.
Lastly, the waitress is having hearing problems as well, I guess Tony asked for a drink that rhymes with mustard or something, whatever that is.
The mustard thing is actually inspired by my own experience last time at the bar. The difference is that I actually asked for mustard for the burger I had ordered. The waiter nodded, went away, and I never got my mustard.
I think he must have misheard me because, if they didn't have mustard, why did he nod? And if they did, why didn't I get my mustard?
Anyway, that is actually the event that inspired this whole thing.
Maybe he just forgot…
Just like in the last comic Zara and RJ are absent to make it less crowded but here their excuse is that they are on their way. The band arranged to meet there and as you can see, Tony is just arriving. I also may have something in mind with Zara and RJ.
On the other hand, they're also waiting for Tak.
Last fun fact: The partiture over their text. While from different sources and not on order, it is from the song “Persiana Americana” by Soda Stereo. If you want to experience this comic all the way.
