Development update April 2024

I hate doing negative updates, but I've got to do one regardless.

Expect a little bit of woe is me with the occasional silver lining.

Like I said in my last public update, I needed to take some time to plan the story of this update before I began production. I did that, it took about 8 days. Some of you might have noticed a reduction in my discord activities, the more astute of you might have noticed a change in my demeanor as well. Here's the gist of it:

Production has been slow. Way- way slower than what I consider acceptable, and I'm currently trying to dig myself out of that hole. I'm going to be transparent about it.

If you generously ignore the week of planning, I have been working on the new update for just under 3 weeks, I have written 4,664 words, taken 183 renders, and recorded 1 animation. I don't know how many of you have a perspective on how development speed should be. But that's not good, especially on the writing side of things. This puts Part 2 at approximately 9% the size of Part 1 right now, and by extrapolation, would result in an update cycle of about 33 weeks at this kind of pace. I need to work faster.

My working pace has improved gradually, and I hope this is a positive trend, in the last few days of writing before I started rendering again, I began forcing myself a little bit, including setting a 1k word/day goal which I hit, rendering followed a similar path, with the first few days producing 20 and sometimes 10 renders, whereas in the past 3 days I've been hitting 30-40. This is a positive thing to see. I'm extremely insecure about how long my updates have taken, and I think it's the biggest, if not the only reason I'm not experiencing a high level of growth.

I've got custom renders to do, and I'll need to do a side job for one of my dear friends in the AVN community. I hope the next development update brings good news, I'll be putting it out in early/mid May, that'll be long enough to get a benchmark of my performance. I'm going to try to keep pushing 1k word / 40 render days for a while.

Stay positive, guys. I'll try my best to do the same.

No worries man, there are high and lows, that's how the game runs. It's better to pace oneself and if necessary take a break sometimes. Your true supportters will always be there, as long as you keep them updated with honesty. πŸ’–

Don't be too harsh on yourself. That kind of 'stress' can lead to a burnout. The most important thing is that you have fun making it! That will shine through in the product. Keep you head up, and enjoy it as much as we enjoy your game!
