In 2015, I put victory rolls in my hair to attend the VE Day 70th anniversary celebration in Cardiff. I was much more camera shy back then and didn't take any photos (I know, right?!). They're a pain in the arse to set in place, so I've never bothered since. But as it's the 75th anniversary of that momentous day, I thought I'd have another go.
My home was built in 1905 and was lucky to survive the Bootle Blitz relatively unscathed. Bombs destroyed the house immediately behind and at the end of my road. To stand in a backyard that experienced the horrors of war is a humbling experience and I wonder how the residents back then would have spent that special day.
On the walk to Tesco today, we stopped alongside the canal that would have been a target for bombs, then in the pretty little park that would have been full of the rubble of dozens of bombed houses back in 1945.
No matter how bad things seem, positives can come from negatives and the sun will always shine again.
