Friends 9x7 & 9x8 FULL Reactions

Comments

Tom and Sue, the boring couple at Mike's parents', were also at Ross's and Emily's wedding. They clearly follow the Friends' characters around just to crash their events and eat some fancy food, while quietly watching the most dramatic moments of the Friends' lives.

Viera Galikova

i didn't even think of that. i saw Chandler in that moment fully as a fictional character worried that Monica would "kill" him... i didn't think the actors cared much about this, since IRL they probably didn't plan on giving their own kids to each other...

Viera Galikova

Emu is an ostrich. I love how Ross can't get disappointed by Amy. "You know what would be great? If you guys died!" "Thank you, Amy!" ... Chandler pats Joey on the back, and Monica pats Phoebe on the back, both right after they get insulted by Amy. even more than Jill, Amy is the picture of what Rachel would be like if she didn't choose to leave Barry, move in with Monica and find a job... I wish Rachel would tell her father off, but at least Joey did it for her at the end of the episode where Phoebe and Ross pushed her to tell him that she's pregnant.

Viera Galikova

I preferred watching Amy over Jill. Christina Applegate is awesome.

Please react to The Sweetest Thing someday. It's so ridiculous and over-the-top funny, and is so nostalgic for me, my friends and I watched it ALL the time in college

Nick, remember that this episode is 21 years old. Before Paul Rudd really hit it big. It was way before Marvel and before the Apatow flicks. Even before Anchorman. In 2003 he was still playing side characters in films and wasn't the "in demand" A-list star he is today.

Jennifer Sauer

They are the ones who played her first, along with Alexandra and Athina Conley. The ones you're talking about, Cali and Noelle Sheldon, played her when she was older (a toddler).

Heida

I believe that Christina Applegate has since retired from acting on camera due to severe MS diagnosis in 2023

Early in the show, they did establish that Rachel had 2 sisters. Christina Applegate is hilarious in this episode. She was on the show Married….. with Children in the mid 80’s as a teenager and Matt LeBlanc appeared as her bad boy boyfriend. She was interviewed about being on Friends and said that she had a lot of fun and her favorite part was when she and Jennifer Aniston started fighting. I love how she thinks Phoebe’s name is Emma and when Phoebe corrects her by saying “FEE-BEE” and Amy says that’s a funny noise. Then later in the episode Ross mentions Emma and Amy looks at Phoebe and says Ross wants her and Phoebe corrects her again saying “FEE-BEE” I believe it was Christina’s idea to ask why Phoebe kept saying that noise, so they rewrote the script on the on the spot.

Great info…and a lot of things I never noticed before! Thank you for sharing. I think those two girls played Emma when she was a little bit older and has lighter hair and eyes. I’m not sure who the babies are who play Emma when she’s this young, but they’re definitely different babies from when she is a toddler. The two girls you mentioned are online now and have shared photos that their parents took of them with the cast. They’ve even been interviewed and said how kind everyone was to their parents, even inviting their parents to a party at one point. It’s really nice to hear how nice the cast was to others who appeared on this show.

It's heartbreaking that Mathew Perry did in fact die first and way to young. I completely forgot that Chandler says that about dying first after he breaks the plates. Just one of those unfortunate coincidences that nobody saw coming.

Josh Z

I completely agree with you on Ross. Great for other people in crisis, not so much himself 😂 Also that baby is the cutest thing ever (Emma is played by twins Elizabeth and Genevieve Davidson who should be about 22 now)!! And agree on Rachel and Amy too, about how Rachel probably saw in her sister what she could have become if she didn't go out that damn window and left Barry at the altar. I love both these episodes! As others have said, Amy is played by Christina Applegate. Her first role was on, funnily enough, Days of Our Lives, when she was just 3 months old. Aside from being on Married... With Children she was on the sitcoms Jesse (which was also produced by David Crane, Marta Kauffman & Kevin S. Bright and aired on NBC right after Friends from 1998-2000), Samantha Who? & Up All Night, the black comedy series Dead to Me and movies like Don't Tell Mom the Baysitter's Dead, The Big Hit, The Sweetest Thing, Vacation, Anchorman, Vacation & Bad Moms. She was even nominated for a Tony for her role in the Broadway revival of Sweet Charity. Plus, she and Matthew Perry appeared in the TV movie Dance 'Til Dawn together AND she would later guest star in Lisa Kudrow's show Web Therapy. She was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2008 and has been in remission since getting a double mastectomy. In 2021 she was diagnosed with MS and had to step down from her role in Dead to Me. She has said she probably won't act in front of the camera anymore but is open to do voice-over work and even working behind the camera. In E7, the way Joey imagines himself living in the apartment, pretending to open a beer and sticking his hand in his pants, is what Al Bundy (played by Ed O'Neill) used to do on Married... with Children. This is also a callback to Ross's comment in an earlier episode to Rachel when she's balancing a drink on her pregnancy bump and he says "if you stuck your hand down your pants you'd look just like Joey". E7's subplot with Chandler, Joey and Monica is strikingly similar to an episode of the British sitcom Coupling, which aired two years prior. The episode in question,"The Cupboard of Patrick's Love", features the main character Steve obsessing about a sex tape his girlfriend Susan made with her ex, Patrick. Similarly, while watching it at Patrick's flat, Steve fails to notice that it had been taped over with another sex tape until Susan bursts in and points it out. Every time Ross or Rachel sings Baby Got Back to Emma, they always stop right before an inappropriate part in the song. In the commentary for the episode, co-creator/writer/producer Marta Kauffman said she bought the fancy plates used in E8. And my heart broke at the end of E8 when Chandler says "I guess I'll be the one who dies first" 💔 Goofs/continuity errors: In E7, it is weird that Chandler is so shocked Monica would make a sex tape with Richard because in 5x09 they were about to make one before Joey interrupted them. Also, when she was dating Pete, she mentioned that they were going to watch a film of themselves that they made earlier. When Chandler and Joey are watching the sex tape, the TV is initially on and showing a football game. However, once Chandler walks to the kitchen, we see it is off even though there is sound. When Chandler is happy it's just a football game and says he's going to get a beer, a safety mat can be seen on the left of the screen by the door where Joey tackles him. When Monica walks in and Joey pulls her down on the floor, you can see a knee-pad strapped to her leg. Monica says that Chandler is jealous of Richard because Richard has a mustache and Chandler can't grow one. This is incorrect because Chandler had a goatee earlier in the series (seen in a flashback and a S2 episode). In E8, right after Rachel puts her hand on Amy's head to hold her back, Jennifer very obviously looks back at the table to make sure she is in the correct spot to knock the plate to the floor. Also, right before that, Matt LeBlanc can be seen mouthing along with Lisa Kudrow during her line "Shouldn't we stop this?". Phoebe says Joey is bad at lying but previous episodes has shown Joey to be a good liar, like "Ken Adams" and the backpacking across Western Europe story. I'm not American and I just saw this online so correct me if I'm wrong, but no one would've been able to take the SATs for Rachel because everyone has to show valid identification before they take the test.

Heida

I've never been to Santa Barbara!

Rich H

I’m right on top of that Rose!

Emily G

Amy is without a doubt the rudest character to ever appear, maybe not just on Friends but in general xD But oh my god she is so hilarious xD

Samuel

I think for your age, you may recognize Christina Applegate from Vacation and Anchorman 1 and 2

MrsLolly27

My friend Julie was at the taping of episode 7. The audience was told to be quiet for the dramatic impact, but when Phoebe is trying to get herself to eat the veal, right when she puts it into her mouth, you can hear Julie gasp. I think of her whenever I see this episode.

Jeremy Young

Please react to the Christina Applegate movie, "Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead"!

Rich H

The producers tried to get Reese Witherspoon, but she wasn’t available, so they decided to bring Rachel’s other sister to the show. Christina Applegate, funny enough, was first on television when she was an infant…and on the show (so many connections) Days of Our Lives. Her career really took off in the 80s though. She actually won an Emmy award for her appearance as Rachel’s other sister. She has been in a lot over the years but recently had to take a break from acting due to her diagnosis of MS. She’s a great actor. And the Baby Got Back song is hilarious. That episode altogether was just great. I love these two episodes.

Kelly

Two great episodes!

Emily G

Christina Applegate plays Amy, her career started in the 80s with the show "Married...With Children" she is one of my favourite guest stars on Friends. Fun fact Matt Leblanc guest starred on Married...With Children. I highly recommend checking out the show it's hilarious.
