This series is based on a graphic novel (a sort of comic book) that was written by Alice Osman and this explains why all these comic-style graphic references (among other things, the author appears in the scene where Nick and Charlie are going to the beach, she is the girl who sits on the train with them). There are four books in all and the fifth book should be out in November. Maybe there will even be a sixth. The first two seasons cover the content of the first three books quite closely. By the way your reactions are very pleasant :)
