The translation was 100% accurate tho? Asian cultures are COLLECTIVIST by definition, ergo onee-san is any older female figure of any relation, not siblings only. Ergo sister-in-law is onee-san because as per cultural norms, sister-in-law would call the parents "otou-san & okaa-san" just like their kids would, hence "onee-san" is not that weird for the younger siblings of the one marrying her etc
