Saturday Update!

I'm sure you can see the embedded video up there [ I don't get to decide where that goes LMAO ] so I'll just explain that first. It's a set of short examples of how the sound coding is going, with background music inserted and some sound effects.
I've gotten roughly half the script done in terms of coding in the music and sound effects. I was hoping to get a bit further, but I had another tough week. One of the reasons I had insomnia before was because a family member I love very much had to get some medical tests done. This week they got the results back and the diagnosis isn't good. I needed some time to process that, as I was unable to concentrate on my work for a bit. I'm sorry for being intentionally vague, but I would prefer to keep this generally private and I honestly don't really want to read a bunch of comments about it [ sorry ]. I may need some time in the future to support my family through the medical treatments, but we'll get to that when we get to that.
In the meantime, I will continue to do my best to stay on schedule. It's looking like I might need just a bit of extra time to get the sound design where I want it to be. Most of what I created is working well, but there's a couple things I really want to change if I can be afforded the time:
Minor edits to the death song, it's pretty good already but could use small tweaks
Replacement of the intro bar loop- I just don't like the one I made
Brand new main menu song- None of my existing songs are what I want for the main menu. I want to make a new dark synth/retrowave type song that has a long building intro and then gets intense and fast-paced
I should hopefully be able to finish the basic audio coding through the script next week. There does also need to be some small tweaks to both audio and animations to make things fit better [ like the 'you died' animation and the song intro ] but I'm not sure if I'll be able to get to that next week.
Basically, the plan is to just keep marching forward and just get things done at whatever pace I can.
I am feeling a bit hopeful about the quality of the game. There's obviously a lot of parts and pieces that don't live up to my lofty ideals of a super professional perfect game, but overall I do think it feels fun. Seeing the finished visuals and hearing my gameplay loops over them actually sparked a tiny sensation of pride in me. If you lived in my brain you'd know that's a pretty rare occasion LMAO
I've been having pretty good luck with the Envato Elements library for finding sound effects I need as well. I've been able to get something for every specific want so far, stuff like a mini fridge opening and closing or an electric drill being used on something wet [ I apologize in advance for that one 😂 ]
In general, I'd say I think things are going pretty well. I might need to extend production time a bit, but nothing crazy.

I think the music really suits the atmosphere and doesn't really distract from the gameplay and text (it happened in some novels so I had to turn off music as it was too annoying and distrcutive) and here it sounds so good!!! It has its own personality and I wouldn't call it boring. I think it will be interesting to compare the final music and the music in this video later on xP ahhh I'm so excited with this game 😭😭😭😭

2025-03-22 19:06:33 +0000 UTCI started off learning with my first game [ the original BTD ] by downloading Ren’Py and working through the built-in tutorial that comes with it. It is a bit of coding but nothing too crazy! Ren’Py has very functional defaults so you can start writing a story and putting in pictures right away. There are also other visual novel programs out there made for people who aren’t familiar with coding, but I don’t have any personal experience with those. I think the main thing to consider is learning how to use the basics, then you can look up each bit of customization as you think of it. Don’t be discouraged if it takes you hours to research something custom- that’s how it goes for me all the time! Every new little custom thing you figure out makes you a stronger developer ^o^

Perhaps it may not be possible to have it be would you consider 'perfect', but at least it will give you a chance to get it to where you at least feel somewhat 'happy'/'happier' with it! That, factored in with personal-life complications, I think most people will agree that if more time is needed, then more time should be given to work on it. Good luck! Keep your strength up! T-T

That automatically levels up the game SO MUCH and is something I always yearn for in games like this you have no idea. the sound effects for subtle things like the rain and duct tape also make it feel much more immersive too. Headphones with this is going to be such a joyride /pos 😭😭😭 this is a historical moment for this game and I couldn't be more proud of supporting you. Your audience (I hope) understands and supports you and, I hope it never feels like we are asking too much of you. If you need to take a week, two weeks, a month off in the future, go do that. My favorite media in the world has long wait times. Some of my favorite media in the world is made by 1 person. I'm used to this, and frankly, the rest of your audience members who aren't, can GET used to it. I am patient. I will wait. I want you to make games as your career.
