Ideas for Next Sitcom Retrospective, Plus a New Project!
Added 2023-04-24 23:53:13 +0000 UTCHey everyone,
I wanted to let you all know that the next sitcom retrospective is moving forward full steam ahead. It's already recorded and I'm working on editing it together. I'll be taking a look a the criminally short-lived series My Name is Earl. I'm exited about this because I was able to find some footage that, as best I can tell, either isn't online, or is very difficult to find.
As for the next show I'll be covering, that's what I'm asking you all about now. I will be putting up a poll on a community post on my main channel, so everyone gets one vote there. But I wanted to reserve one nomination spot for patrons. If you have a series you'd like me to cover, leave it in a comment below. The series with the most comments/likes gets a spot in the poll.
Some ground rules for this one. The show doesn't need to be a sitcom, but it does need to be completed. There are also shows I won't cover because their distributors are very nasty with copyright claims. As much as I'd love to do All in the Family or The Nanny, I also don't want Sony to take my channel down.
Make your suggestions below, and keep an eye on my channel's community page for when the poll goes live.
And one more thing! That secret podcast project is debuting very soon! In fact, a tentative date, fingers crossed, is May 1st. It's going to be called "The Only Warrior Cats Podcast", hosted by myself, Zoe Bee and Lola Sebastian. It's about a series of young adult books called "Warriors" that feature cats having adventures in a forest, and also fascism. It's really fun project, and while it's not very similar to my other content, I hope everyone will give it a shot. I'll have more details in a community post about that too, but I wanted to let everyone here know about it early.
As always, thank you all so much for your support! Looking forward to all the exciting upcoming releases.

2023-04-30 06:42:07 +0000 UTCI will say outside of its viability in terms of retrospective appeal, its just a solid serries with great actor chemestry and some solid who done it stories

2023-04-30 01:44:03 +0000 UTCWow, that's surprising - it was the biggest show on the planet for a couple years, which I'm not exactly sure how explain because it's a legitimately good show, and legitimately good shows don't ordinarily get rewarded with massive audiences - anyway, it's my all time favorite drama though maybe the dopey word "dramedy" would be more appropriate because a good 30% of near every script is just Laurie being hilariously nasty to the people that care about him... well if you've never seen it then I don't think it's an ideal choice, it's a medical procedural but the twist is Laurie plays a Holmesian character who is logical to a fault so it's kind of framed as a police procedural with the diagnoses being the criminals. I love it, but I dunno, I love spaghettios too so I'm not exactly an influencer. Even if you don't review it I would recommend checking it out recreationally, start with any episode other than the first 3 (I mean you can watch the pilot if you want the plot points laid out in front of you but it's not a great pilot or anything) and once you have a feel for who House is, skip to the penultimate episode of the first season "Three Stories" - it's the first real highlight of the series IMO and it explains a lot about the character that never gets explained again... from there S2 + 3 are both excellent but also very formulaic, it's the 4th season when they really hit their stride and completely reshuffle the cast just for fun - the all time without a doubt best episode is the two part finale of that season. Jeez, maybe *I* should review it, lol As for Laurie, yes of course everyone knew he was funny but House gave him the opportunity to illustrate what an amazing dramatic actor he is - I have never seen a better written/acted portrayal of a man living in misery than Laurie's House. He embodies the cycle of Joy followed by Misery of Opiate addiction better than anyone I've ever seen (and this was the early 2000's) and gives just the most incredibly nuanced performances. I would highly recommend you give it a shot if you ever have time. Sorry for the tsunami of words I sure have a lot to say about House lolol

2023-04-29 23:48:46 +0000 UTCM*A*S*H would be great, though it would take a lot of time to rewatch that whole series. I'd also want to find the British version so I could skip the laugh track.

2023-04-29 23:48:28 +0000 UTCSabrina was done a disservice so it gets a lock in being in the next poll
José
2023-04-29 23:47:57 +0000 UTCLots of good options there. The general rule of thumb though is any show distributed by Sony or Netflix. Although Netflix is easier to work with than Sony. Sadly, Sony seems to hold the rights to most Norman Lear shows.
José
2023-04-29 23:47:31 +0000 UTCIf ever a video would end up spending all its time on the backstage drama...
José
2023-04-29 23:46:44 +0000 UTCI always struggled to get into Avatar, but I would give it a chance for the channel. If there were a firm date for the Netflix show, I'd love to plan around that.
José
2023-04-29 23:46:28 +0000 UTCI think there are a few YouTube videos on the wildness of this show. It might be fun to cover one day though, even if it would require a lot of time to watch.

2023-04-29 23:43:16 +0000 UTCI've never seen House M.D., though do people not know that about Hugh Laurie? I thought everyone knew he was great. Though maybe moreso for his comedy.
José
2023-04-29 23:42:55 +0000 UTCI've seen Sons of Anarchy, but never The Shield. Which seems like a mistake.
José
2023-04-29 23:42:25 +0000 UTCThis would have been more timely when the reboot was airing. But yeah, a definite possibility.
José
2023-04-29 23:41:50 +0000 UTCA lot of the shows I've been covering have felt a bit too recent, but maybe this might be worth doing in the future.
José
2023-04-29 23:41:26 +0000 UTCCovering it for this channel is the only way I'd watch it. So it's possible!
José
2023-04-29 23:40:55 +0000 UTCI would prefer to do this before Friends.
José
2023-04-29 23:40:43 +0000 UTCI suspect this will always be a long shot. But I might do it one day.
José
2023-04-29 23:40:28 +0000 UTCThat would be interesting. For a show that was so huge, I'm surprised I don't see more people request it.
José
2023-04-29 23:40:13 +0000 UTCThat might be interesting, but I'd like to give Greg Garcia shows a rest for a bit. I might come back to it though!

2023-04-28 10:53:09 +0000 UTCHonestly, I trust whatever retrospective you decide to do, but I would love an in depth look at M*A*S*H. There are so many topics you could cover from America’s perception of war as the show was airing to themes seen in the show such as mental health, race relations, the weakness of religion and the impact the show has even in today’s world. The characters alone all deserve deep dives themselves! Alan Alda is one of my favourite actors, he wrote and directed numerous episodes on the show. Definitely deserves a closer look.
Robin Bell
2023-04-25 19:16:20 +0000 UTCI know you said you won't prolly do 3rd Rock.. but.. pls? Also, what happened to Sabrina? Would be very cool to also hear your take on Columbo.

2023-04-25 18:14:59 +0000 UTCGiven how big some of the shows you've covered are, it's hard to know which shows would be especially litigious, though I'll definitely take your other rule into consideration (but suggest Bob's Burgers if and when it ever ends): The Good Place Fresh Off the Boat NewsRadio Seinfeld Barney Miller Any of the Norman Lear or MTM shows I Love Lucy Burns and Allen

José
2023-04-25 04:25:23 +0000 UTCI will once again ask for a video on Avatar, please and thank you. I can't speak for other patrons, but the show means a lot to me and other people my age I've talked to, has plenty of sociopolitical messaging to talk about, and thankfully isn't terribly long so won't be too much to watch through for coverage.
