ELEMENTS Tileset Patron Half-Beta

Hello! Today I have something really big and I'm excited to share it with you!

I've talked about it before: my next planned release is the first tileset pack for the Elements style. This is the Hometown set; all of the tiles for making a basic RPG town or farm village, with enough of the standard nature tiles to get started on some simple outskirts. In other words-- this is the "core set" for the Elements tileset series.

Today's release is a special beta release for patrons that includes a little more than half of what I have planned for the full set.

OK... I'll admit it-- I was hoping to have the full set ready for you today; but arranging the tiles always takes longer than I plan for (spent literally all day on Wednesday arranging and splitting up autotiles). So this set is only the exterior tilesets; I'll be working on the interiors next week.

So that's why this is a half-beta and not the full thing LOL ๐Ÿ˜…

Still, I think this is pretty big. Check it out:

------

You'll recognize the pine trees (and maybe a few other things) from previous patron releases: so if you're a longtime patron it might not seem super exciting, but these pine trees have never been released to the public before. I really love these tree tiles, and the gritty, detailed style of them is a strong foundation for the visual direction of the new Elements series.

The first set in this release is a general wilderness base tileset:

The other part of the set is tiles for a town or village. Here's an example map that I put together. It shows off some of the new house constructions that are possible (these maps were made in RPGMaker, and the house bases are made using A3 autotiles):

(You might also recognize that scarecrow as a remastered version of the one from my Farmfall assets, which were also shared on patreon but never released to the public).

One of the major problems with this set is that it is covering a lot of "basic" tiles that I've made in the past before for other styles. I wanted to avoid simply repackaging the same tiles that I've already made (that's not fair!); instead I wanted to modernized and improve on the told stuff with all-new pixel art: a "remaster".

Because of that, a lot of the tiles here will look familiar-- but if you get closer, you'll realize that the pixels have been updated to match the more modern style-- a style that ironically is even more retro-- I'm aiming for a sort of high-contrast grittiness that was really strong in some of the SNES greats like FF6 or Chrono Trigger.

Here's a good example of what I mean: I took this little comparison shot while I was working on the rocks-- you can see the difference between my older-style rock tiles vs the new more detailed style:

Okay -- enough of the rambling: here's the Download:

NOTE: Some browsers have a hard time with .zip files. If the download isn't working, make sure to right-click and 'save as', maybe copy-paste the URL into a new tab, or try a different browser.

Let me know your thoughts. If there's anything important that seems to be missing; or if there's any errors or alignment bugs, please share with me.

My next step is the interior sets that will go alongside these for the tileset release. I'll be working on those tiles next week, alongside any changes that need to be made to the sets that I've shared here today.

But before that, I'll be back next week with a more regular release. See you then-- have a great weekend!

Thanks!

Wow it looks really cool. Can't wait for all the new style stuff. You can really see the change over the years.

Do you prefer the TF style?

I'm not gonna say it's the best day for art since man invented pigment, but it's like a close third or fourth.
