The unexpected stillness of what should have been a bustling center of activity was mysterious, to say the least. Even more concerning, not a single thing was out of place. No signs of struggle, no damage to the tents or wall. It was almost as if the soldiers and their retinue vanished into the air.
The men and I were the relief force, sent to replace the soldiers who had spent the last two seasons observing and guarding against the wilds. With great caution, we began searching the fort for any clues as to this mass disappearance.
In our investigation, we found personal effects left behind, clothing that had been hung out to dry now stiff and stained by the weather, even food on tables, inedible from rot.
We had no choice but to send a courier back to civilization with the news and man our posts. While everything feels peaceful and still here, I remain most unnerved. With so many questions and no answers, we can't help but wonder if we will arrive at the same mysterious fate."
