Only for an instant, a flash of uncertainty furrowed her brow, and a scowl spread from tusk to tusk. Even though it was only a moment, it didn't escape her partner's perception.
"Oye, no!" Aphaux exclaimed, "There's no room for that here, so ye best stow it! Up there, appearances are everything. Ye give someone a wrong look, ye don't laugh when ye aught to laugh, it all ends the same way. Not reading the room and using the wrong approach is going to get us dead faster than if we tried to fight our way through."
Grabbing her cloak from her rucksack, Aphaux threw the hood over her filed-down horns.
"Everyone in the court has had years to learn the ways. They all have the upper hand. If ye want to keep the hope of finding him and getting out with yer hide intact, play the part. Look like ye belong. Once we're over the balcony, there's no way out but in.""
