I cannot how genuinely shocked I was at this record. OOF.

This is a masterpiece of a review dude. I really love Trainwreckords

Hahahha, I was never a fan of Van Halen and knew about the David Lee Roth bit, but when this record came out and that single shown at the beginning came on MTV I remember thinking. "Everyone seems to look so much younger when they cut their hair!" :P Completely different person, duh... I might have a bit of faceblindness. Nah, I do have name blindness, great with faces. No, I'm great with names, everybody's named "Hey you!"

Not directly related but I'm sorry I suddenly reduced my initial $10 pledge to a $2 one. I was dealing with less income than expected and had to cut some expenses. May go back to the $10 amount in the future. Also this video is really good <3

I understand it was the debut of the band's 3rd lead singer, but calling your 11th album "Van Halen III" is rather nonsensical. Unless of course "III" is not the Roman numeral three, but was supposed to be the word "ill" with the first letter capitalized and everyone was thrown off by the choice of font until it was too late. Which would have been very Spinal Tap of them.

Since he's using the video for Tattoo at the end there, I have a feeling Todd doesn't like A Different Kind of Truth...

Pietro Gagliardi

So, basically, the Van Halens went full Axl on the band with this album?

Gilbert Cortes

I thought a Cinema Snob episode was about to start for a second. I miss that theme.

Van Halen's trajectory taught me about the flaws in auteur theory back when I was a dumb teenager who didn't give two hoots about art analysis

big bird (not that one)

Without you sounded like a Roger Waters song, but bad.

Van Halen III is a strangely similar album to Genesis' Calling All Stations, which is yet another Trainwreckord from the late '90s by a legendary band that had been popular since the '70s and brought in a third lead singer, who was already famous for fronting a different band in the '90s, but to poor results.

I never liked Roth. At best I tolerated him. I liked Hagar’s tenure, but I didn’t know much at all about post-Hagar Van Halen. This was really interesting.

Matthew Abbott

Is he, though? Is he?

Matthew Abbott

"Without You" sounds almost ahead of its time, despite its awfulness. I could see a band like Seether or Staind taking that chorus and making something of it. As for "How Many Say I"... I can't figure out why they decided to end their heavy metal album with something that sounds like an 80s Roger Waters outtake.

Actually Van Halen are doing quite well now after reuniting with Roth for Different Kind of Truth.

LifeIsStrange

Chad Kroeger is a damn good singer, I far more apt comparison would be Scott Stapp.

LifeIsStrange

TODD ISN'T IT THE SLEEPTIME?!

I thought Without You was pretty decent

LifeIsStrange

Oh. OH, MY.

Noah Ramon

I quite like this album actually, Ballot or the Bullet is pretty goddamn relevant today.

LifeIsStrange

I was going to sleep but I can postpone that
