Well that's a disaster.

Because my fans are wonderful but insatiable, I greatly underestimated how quickly people would fill up the request line, just like I did the last two times I did this because I'm a very stupid man who doesn't learn very quickly. I really thought more-than-doubling the price would keep it on hold. I was wrong; I just had to put a cap on it after 15 requests, but that's still way, way too much.

I'm going to try to pare it down to a manageable 8, 10 at the most. I'm really sorry to do this to people. To that end, I'm asking if any of the 15 people who made pledges to step down voluntarily. After that, I'm going to make executive decisions and start cuts myself. This is no one's fault but my own, and I'm really, really sorry to disappoint you all. :(

Damn that sucks

Next time just start at a cool grand and see how it goes.

Jaszon Alexzander

What a disaster that so many people enjoy your work so much that they'd drop three Benjamins to support you. :-)

Steve

I still don't know how to contact you about my request.

Really great

Lust and Kinky Games

I currently have 11 patrons; if anyone wants to save their money and drop out I'm okay with that but I don't want to force anyone to drop out either.

Todd in the Shadows

So, by the look of it, your choices for this batch of requests are final? I’m assuming mine made it because Patreon states I’m still on the $300 pledge?

Jacqueline Sailer

I mean, it seems like the only logical price for the next batch.

Saharali

I was really surprised when I looked at it after the announcement and seeing you didn't have a cap after everything you said.

I really want to see what happens if next time the cost is $1,000.

It would be really neat if you could do it communally. Have people submit their first choice with a $100 bid. You do the top 4 picks and everyone who bid for them pays the $100 (So if 24 people want you to do "Sex & Candy" it is a $2400 video but you don't feel like you are fleecing anyone because 24 people paid for it) You can acknowledge each bidder in the video up front instead of in the kicker, or spread it through the video..... (for the record, that is not the song I have in my mind, that is a secret for now)

Zachery Egan

I've gotten it down to 11. Whether you go or stay is up to you, I'm not going to press it.

Todd in the Shadows

Out of curiosity, what would you think about a movie request? A musically themed one of course, like Phantom of the Rock Opera, or Interstella 5555?

AndronicusVII

Honestly if you can pull $300 for a request and still have way more than you can research yourself, you probably could consider hiring a research assistant. The demand's clearly there.

Matt Cramp

I think the auction idea is probably good, although I was really looking forward to next year's "1HW requests now $5000 because you people are goddamn bonkers" post

Mike Craft

Ok, if the choice is to pay rent or a see video on youtube I think I'll focus on having a roof over my head.

Joss Strand

Instead of trying to guess the supply/demand equilibrium price, just auction them off on ebay or something.

Adequately Sized Dog

This would probably be the best option.... You'll probably end up making a ridiculous amount. Have everyone do just one bid, then take the top ten bids... If your fans started a bidding war they'd probably end up throwing hundreds or thousands of dollars at you.

Dog

Hello! I'm a fellow creator, I actually create pop music which as I have read in your overview is your genre of choice. You are more then welcome to review my songs on your channel if you would like! :)

Who could have seen that coming...? :p

Humanoïde

I have an idea: What if some of the people making the request combined their pledges-- so you have, say, 8 OHW requests, and then a "3 person request ($900)" and a "4 person request ($1200)"-- but under this caveat: Those groups each get to chose ONE thing for you to review (they have to decide it themselves)-- BUT it can be for a much more intense episode. Something that requires much more research, or would be a very in-depth dive, or a OHW that would have to be a 3 parter. That way everyone gets to pledge, and you are vested to do an episode more ambitious / bigger that you could normally afford to do.

Lorne Kates was going to change this name for April 1st but clicked SAVE too soon.

That's impressive. Got to set a quota on those next time, I guess (or see if going over $500 slows it down). Man, I wonder how much you'd get if you ever sold off a Top Ten Worst or Best List . . .

Brett

Never underestimate the power of your fans, I guess.

So......in other words you made a bad prediction?

Alan Kase

Let me know where you're at with the paring down, I can step down if you want

Can it be any kind of song? Also, I would love to buy one of these for next year if it's too late to buy one now.

Kyle Brackman

No need, I'm already contacting them myself.

Todd in the Shadows

I have a song I know I want to suggest, and can and would pay the $300 you put it at. When I looked you already had 11 people so I knew you would end up cutting it and didn't add myself to the list. An auction may be a good idea in the future, that or if you need to start out at the $1000 price point and see how many takers there are. I think $500 will end up being the correct place for it though. DO NOT FEEL GUILTY that people love your work and are more than happy to pay for it.

Zachery Egan

Those who pledged might want to announce themselves and contact each other - if two pledgers happened to want the same song reviewed, it might make it easier to agree who will step down?

I’d still keep my pledge if you charged more. Perhaps though in the future, an auction format would resolve the unpredictability of your viewers’ willingness to pay while also giving them the chance to respond in time much more easily?

Jacqueline Sailer

Supply and demand. Prices send signals in economics. Raise prices. If in doubt, put it up to a bid. At least do that with your existing 15 people. To hell with it. Charge $1000. If people will pay, then that’s the right price. Be ruthless. This is a business.

Ryan Ellis

Glad that you're messing up is because of too much business cause of being liked so much

Darn, it’s wonderful that you have such a passionate fanbase, so this must be absolutely devastating to you. I dearly hope I’m not cut because I was so stoked to take advantage of this opportunity, but if you feel incapable of producing much comedy material out of any of my requests, then I will understand. <3

Jacqueline Sailer

tried to warn you lol

Stephen Staver

No problems. I know I'm just a rando on the internet, so you can disregard this advice as you see fit, but perhaps a price range of $500-$750 next time would keep this more manageable.

Its easy to undervalue yourself and your work, 300$ is a steal

Mike Isasi

It may be good to clarify if anyone who steps down and/or is cut will be eligible for a refund. Todd in the Shadows community is insatiable!

Gator McKinley

Sorry, dude.

Fred Mulholland

I've reverted myself back to my previous backer level.
