Behind The Scenes: The Simpsons Hit & Run
Added 2024-11-16 22:48:05 +0000 UTCHey all - this behind the scenes contains production details, as well a look into future video topics for the channel.
This was a very unique video for me. I learned a lot about a game that I knew very little about, and was pleasantly surprised at how many tricks there were, as well as twists and turns in the story.
Hope you enjoy!

I mean, personally, I'd love to see more Pikmin or Metroid (Zero Mission?) content on the channel, but in the case of the former, I'd understand if that just gets too bogged down in details. I'm also very curious about many indie games like Celeste, Hat in Time, Hades, and, above all else, Pizza Tower (Though obviously that last one should probably wait a while until we have more story to work with.) All of that being said, however, any video you make, I'll be there Day 1. I didn't previously have any interest in S:H&R, but you made it very compelling.

2024-11-18 07:21:29 +0000 UTCAs a teacher, the biggest things I've noticed that have broad appeal (outside of Nintendo) would be things like MineCraft, Doom, Call Of Duty, and Undertale. Like, whenever I'm talking about video games, students bring these ones up. That means that the younger generation of gamers have interest, but also some of these clearly are coming from their parents, too. Are there any good Final Fantasy world record stories? I'd be interested in that, and that's a very well-known series. Thanks for all of your great content! (Edit: Sorry about deleting my post. If anyone else sees that and thinks someone was being a troll here, that was just me accidentally deleting instead of editing. And as you can see from this edit, I eventually figured it out...)

2024-11-18 04:56:01 +0000 UTCI would hella watch a multi-part update to SM64 120 star. I'm also a big RPG / JRPG fan. I dunno that those would do super well just because the runs can be so long but I'd really enjoy them. I also wonder how some rougelikes might do, like Spelunky, Hades, Binding of Isaac. I think of Diablo 2 in that category too. Other thought is the various Doom games, which are classics and also make for good speed runs.

2024-11-17 07:02:45 +0000 UTCI like how you mentioned Spongebob at the end regarding potential ideas in the future, because from what I’ve seen, Battle for Bikini Bottom (both the original and the Re-Hydrated edition) has a decently sized speedrun community. As for other non-Nintendo ideas, this is just me spitballing, but off the top of my head, Celeste, A Hat in Time, Psychonauts, Clustertruck, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, and Undertale

2024-11-17 06:22:12 +0000 UTCAnother line of thought: is YT views the primary thing you're optimizing for? I'm curious whether certain videos end up having much longer watch times / completion % than others. (I think MrBeast specifically looks at dropoffs and completions as a primary metric?) Speaking only for myself: what I personally care about and what keeps me interested in a video is the surprising depth of the game and the repeated reinvention via new strategies. This is pretty independent of *which* game you're covering. Almost always when I am skeptical of a game you decided to pick, I very quickly realize I was wrong. I don't care at all about Tetris, I get that it maybe did well because it's a recognizable game for everyone, but like... I personally recommended that video because of the shocking level of depth involved and the twists and turns. LEGO Star Wars I only ever played because I have kids, and thought it would be really stupid, and then was completely blown away by your video. Obviously at this point I trust and will support you investigating literally anything lol, but whether I *recommend* a video (eg virality) depends for me entirely on the depth of story... and maybe that's more important than clicks because someone recognizes a game in a thumbnail? I don't know but maybe your deeper stats can figure this out. (As a corollary: I'm actually not *super* interested in the videos that are mostly about execution squeezing out mere seconds. Like okay, getting the original Mario game to literal frame perfect time, I can appreciate that one. But videos with lots of "this game was mostly figured out and it just came down to executing better everywhere" feels kinda boring compared to completely revolutionary game-breaking discoveries. I admit this may be a personal quirk though.)

2024-11-17 05:58:09 +0000 UTCAlright so, if Mario does well... I would think that the Legend of Zelda games could do similarly well. It's an absolutely massive franchise with fans of every game of every age, and there's some really incredible stuff (I remember when the Wind Waker barrier skip was the holy grail, long gone now, and the BotW strategies are so much fun). I know you did the original Zelda game, which as someone who grew up on that I appreciated, but I'll bet Link to the Past and BotW would especially do well. Ocarina of Time of course has been legendary too (I know you covered some of that in the documentary). What about newer Mario games? Mario Odyssey is such a great game, I'd love a detailed speedrun history of that. Or is it just TOO new?

2024-11-17 00:15:35 +0000 UTCI am consistently amazed by the level of detail you go into when researching all of these games. It definitely shows in all of your videos! I think games outside of Mario titles that would do well would be classics that people grew up playing. I know SHAR is very nostalgic to a pretty large audience of people that were the right age to play it when it came out. Maybe something like GTA San Andreas (idk how interesting or active that speedrunning community is, so I'm not sure if that would be interesting, but I know it would catch people's eyes). Updates and redos would definitely be interesting to see, also. I think it would highlight your growth as a scriptwriter and researcher.
