if this is how he speaks to guests on his show then i’d hate to find out how he speaks to his loved ones. why do we platform ppl without even a shred of empathy? this man hasn’t renewed his medical license since like 2006 and we still call him a doctor i simply do not understand

I'd love to see a general takedown of the TV trend where mentally unwell people are publicly goaded into making fools of themselves for entertainment. Dr. Phil, Maury, etc. I feel like these tap into a really dark part of human psychology. It's the same impulse that drove people to view public executions as entertainment in the middle ages.

This was certainly an interesting video. I guess as someone who has never rly watched Dr Phil, I would have benefitted from some context of like... what people actually think they get out of watching Dr Phil? What he claims to be providing? It's implicit in your video I guess, but as someone who has never bought into this particular reality show im like... yeah that's about right, he's a scumbag and a manipulator. So if u do another video on Dr. Phil, would love to hear your take on what exactly the sell of the show is and what that fantasy Bailey punctures provides for viewers/DrP himself beyond the shorthand "power."

God this was a HARD one to watch. I totally see your take and you really summed up a feeling I've had for so long about this sorta format of dragging people into the public to publicly filet them. It's like the teachers who would pick the student to publicly shame for the class. They use their position of authority to hold down those unaware of their power to make a public example of them so the masses can show their reaction. It really brought back some dark experiences I've had myself and I hope you don't mind me mentioning such. It's why actual 101 therapy is so important.
